Large / Question about Bachmanns 2-6-0 mogul.
September 20, 2010, 09:40:37 PM
I am interested in getting a 81XXX series Mogul, but I have never seen one in person. My biggest worry is that I am trying to stay with 1:20.3.  I know the engine will be small, but in the pictures, it look more like is a standard gauge engine, which would make it 1:22, not narrow gauge. I would think that if it is a 1:20.3 it would have more over hang over the wheels. Does this make sense?

Nothing wrong with buying sets, just the track is designed more for under the christmas tree, not outdoors.

If you going to look for those Garden Railroading issues, try calling "Roy's Train World" in Mesa, or "Coronado Scale Models" in Phoenix. They both carry the magazine, and I believe they will mail them to you.

Unfortunately, Bachmann track is not made for outside running, and does not last long. Going outdoors you will want to use track such as Aristo-craft, LGB, Peco, USA Trains, or Accucraft. These companies have made their track to withstand the sun and elements.

There are a couple of different companies that make remote systems, but whether or not they will fit in your train, I don't know. So I will leave that to others to comment on.

I just looked through the announcement. I'm in for a DCC ready climax, and  several of the  box cars.

It is a 2-6-6-2, engine number 12, it has a 8-wheel  dog-house tender. The owner was the "Southwest Lumber Mills Inc." company. They hauled trees from Allen lake to Flagstaff. Alan lake is about 35-40 miles south of Flagstaff.

I tried to post pictures, but apparently my file is to large.

Thanks for correcting my about Sid. I figured he was joking, but Jettrain said he did not remember what F.R.E.D. stood for, and my post was meant for him.

Close, but Fred stands for "flashing rear-end device, or "flashing red end of train devise". Either is acceptable.

Two weekend ago, I was north of Tucson, Az, and watched a train go by being pulled by 3 NS engines. I was sorry I did not have my camera. I will be down there again this weekend, I will bring the camera.

Nice video Jettrainfan.

General Discussion / Re: Compatible track

As long as you use the same code [100, 80, etc...] the rails will match.

They do make transition track if needed.

The biggest problem you would have is that EZ track has a large plastic road bed, where the Mark series has no roadbed.

A goggle search came up with this.

Is it just me, or did the last car in the film have one of those donut spare tires on it?

Bruce

Oh. And thanks. I enjoyed watching that.

If you can not find your paperwork, and do need to return it, you will have to pay a $50.00 fee [ see the Service Department box on the left side of your screen]. Of course you will also have to pay the shipping one way.

Thanks. I fugured as much, buy wanted to make sure. I guess the lateral movement could be called somewhat prototypical, as they where call mud-hens because they waddled.

Thanks to both of you!!!! This is the information I was looking for.

I think that it will be smaller that I am looking for. So, I will wait until one shows up at a train show so I can see one before I buy.

So I recently received a K-27 also. There is no red dot on the box, and my tender does not have wipers. Does this mean that my engine will not have the counterweight problem, and the shims have been installed?

And how much play is there in the wheels? Mine has what seems to be a lot of side play. Thanks.

Large / Mogul size
April 03, 2010, 02:22:25 PM
I was wondering about the size of Bachmann's 1:20.3 mogul, the 816xx series How does it compare up against, say a heisler, or the the new forney. Is it smaller, larger, same size? Is it narrow gauge, or a standard gauge engine, which should make it small compared to the other 1:20.3 equipment.

Thanks,
Bruce
