I program them on the "Program Track", that is a siding,  that I have isolated.  I just follow the NORMAL directions, that are in the EZ-Command manual.  I have not had any problems...

HO / Re: Spectrum Shay

Pacific Northern,
I actually have the sound decoder, speaker, and baffle to install into the Shay.  I contacted tony"s, who sent advised me as what to buy.  I also have never had a gear problem. (Knock on wood) Now that being said, Tax Refund IS on the way,,,,  I do have my eye on the sound installed unit....
Even though the GN did not have a Shay, the UP did have one in the mines of Utah.  Therefore I can have one....  or two...  or three...

The problem with that method is that now after touching the engine.....  You get graphite on everything else!!  :)

HO / Re: Rivarossi Big Boy query

I have one from "15" years ago.  It has the motor in the boiler.  It was the last one Rivarossi made, before Hornby purchased them.  The version with the motor in the boiler, is already isolated.  It was easy to convert to DCC

Les,
Do keep in mind, that with a larger turntable, you CAN expand the layout later. Without having to but ANOTHER turntable to fit the "New" expansion!!

Do not ask me how I know!! ;D

You could buy the version as mentioned.  Then buy the Keystones (They are available...)  A decal set for the PRR....and you are good to go!!

The only other single piece frames I have put decoders in is Athearn.

I will look more into this install this coming weekend.
Thanks for the help!!

It has something to do with being able to burn a more "Generic"or cheaper type of coal...
Knowing the GN, it probably had to do with saving on operating costs.

I have used several Pennsylvania engines, due to the their Fireboxes.  The GN (which I model mostly) PREFERRED this type.  There are only a few other roads that used them.  They are easy to convert to a "Believable"  model.  Just change a few details....  AND WHALLLAAA....  A GOOD close "Enough" (for me) Dependable runner!

It is a single die-cast piece.  I have hard wired many decoders into units.  It just puzzles me from having not having seen a unit with 1 chassis before.   I have NOT taken the motor out, and see only 1 wire from each truck coming up to the head light/top motor connection.  This tells me that the unit must use the die-cast piece as a pickup connection, somewhere.

Thanks for the help.  I will tear her apart and look for those contact strips.

I have already installed decoders in all of my units.  This unit is from my son's set he was given as a Christmas gift years ago......   I want him to be able to run his Loco on my current system.  It WILL run on my EZ-Command system...  I am just afraid he will leave it on the rails and burn out the engine.  He already did it to one...
I can not find any installation instructions for this unit.  :)

I have a HO scale Standard Bachmann FT unit.  It has a SOLID chassis that I think picks up power from one rail.  The power for the other rail is from the trucks.  Has anyone put a decoder in these.  The engine is from the Challenger set #00621.

HO / Re: K-4 Tender
February 07, 2010, 01:41:19 PM
My Bachmann Spectrum K-4 tender has 2 screws one in front of the "Water Scoop"  and one in front of the rear truck.

I had to lift the tender from the front to raise it.  There are small tabs that hold the rear down...
