HO / Body shell swap for GP-40s
September 24, 2020, 01:48:09 PM
I have some extra road name boy shells I would like to swap out for my existing ones on my Bachmann GP-40s.

Anyone have experience doing this? Loosen screws on bottom of fuel tank or slip on off?

Thanks,

Barry

HO / 2-8-0 plastic drive gear replacement.
May 14, 2020, 08:35:28 PM
I realize that these gears are not sold by Bachmann and I think someone said years back that Northwest Shortline ? had a replacement one? I also think that recently said NWShortline no longer offers this item.

Outside of getting a replacement chassi from either Bachmann when they re-open or on ebay are there any other solutions to stripped gears?

BTW, all of my locomotives are okay and don't currently need a gear ... just thinking ahead to stock up on parts so they are available when required.

Thanks, guys.

April 26, 2020, 11:34:30 PM
I would like to reposition the headlight on my 2-6-0 from above the smokebox to the center of the smokebox front. Has anyone of you done this and how difficult is it to do?

Thanks,

HO / Re position a tender back up lite.
April 25, 2018, 07:54:46 PM
I would like to move my 2-6-0 tender lite from the side to the middle but I can't get the the fixture to come loose when gently, pulling up on it. I have a hunch it's glued on rather than just held in by friction.

Any suggestions on easy removal?

Thanks,

Barry

HO / Swapping Body shells on steam and diesel models
April 13, 2018, 03:29:35 PM
Hi Bach Mann and modelers:

I have a couple of questions.

1. Can the tender shell from a 2-10-2, with backup light be swapped for a tender shell from a 2-8-0? Are they the same length or is the 2-10-2 shell longer?
2. Are the chassis's for a GP38 the same as a GP40 so body shells can be swapped?

Thanks, in advance for any inforamtion.

HO / 2-8-0
August 25, 2017, 04:19:09 AM
Bachman is there a possibility that the 2-8-0 (IC prototype) will be re-released with DCC/Sound similar to the new ones in N scale?

Thanks,

HO / 2-6-0 Decoder
May 16, 2016, 06:18:19 PM
Recently I purchased a new Bachmann 2-6-0 which I thought was DCC/Sound but have found to my disappointment that it is in fact only DCC ready. The fault is my own not the sellers for not double checking to make sure the engine was DCC/Sound Value.

My question is how do I go about adding DCC/Sound to this engine? I know I can probably put in a DCC plug but how do I add Sound?
Can I simply buy a decoder from Bachmann and make an easy swap? Purchase a decoder/sound equipped tender and swap shells?

Any suggestions/information is very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Barry

HO / 2-8-0 Sound
May 20, 2015, 11:33:19 AM
Hi Bach Man:

Are there plans to run another batch of 2-8-0 s in the near future and will they be delivered with sound capabilty?

BTW, this is probably the best operating and looking "generic", steam locomotive on the market and for us Illinois Central modelers is close to their prototype.

Thanks,

HO / RS-3 for repainting
March 17, 2015, 10:18:39 PM
I would like to buy an RS-3 body shell and re-paint  it for a favorite road.

Do the handrails and window/glass inserts pop out easily to strip and repaint the engine or is a chore to remove them because of heavy gluing at the factory?

Thanks,

Barry

HO / HO 2-8-0 belt
June 09, 2014, 09:31:35 PM
Good Evening Bach man:

Can you give me an idea of when to expect the 2-8-0, drive belts to be in stock and is there a way to pre-order them?
My consolodation of 12 years, which is my favorite locomotive has begun slipping as when  the motor speed is increased the" sound" does but there is very little to no movement of the wheels. This engine has been a quiet, smooth runner and I want to get it back in service. Any suggestions? I tried on line sources along with Bachmann parts but they are sold out.

Thanks,

Barry

HO / 2-6-0 tender backup light
September 22, 2013, 09:57:48 PM
How difficult would it be to re-position the 2-6-0, tender backup light to the rear center rather than the engineer's side?

Thanks,

Barry

HO / 2-6-0 rear headlite
May 24, 2013, 08:58:13 PM
I have a wonderful, operating 2-6-0 with DCC and sound. However, when using the rear headlite for a backup move it blinks constantly instead of remaining on bright and a solid beam. Anyone have this happen? How did you stop the blinking?
Also how do you remove the tender shell to get at the rear lite in order to re-position it to the middle of the tender deck?

Thanks,for any responses.

HO / New 2-6-0
December 28, 2011, 02:36:08 PM
My wife gave me a nice little Christmas gift in the form of a new (as in new model) Bachmann, 2-6-0, with DCC/Sound, a short little tender (about 20-25 foot), operating headlight and tender backup light/ front /rear couplers all with a nice detailed engine for an on-line price of a little over $100. The locomotive runs smoothly in both DC and DCC modes and it has one of the best whistles I ever heard, along with a good bell, chuff, and brake application/release sounds. It has a two position drawbar so the tender can be "hooked up" nice and close to the cab on curves 22" and above and because it's short (7 1/2 -8 inches) will fit on even a short turntable and go around tight wye curves. This engine will join my excursion roster along side the Bachmann IC, 2-8-0 and look great handling a pair of 60 foot coaches and caboose on the short line.
I believe Bachmann has scored a hit with this little locomotive which should offer great kit-bashing possibilities for those more prorotypically minded.
