Guys...my internet stinks...havent been able to check out the announcements.

Are my eyes deceiving me, or is Bachman going to do an AFFORDABLE HO scale GG 1?

If so, what roads, and when can we expect em?

HO / Re: Mr. Bachmann, a technical question for you

From pictures ive seen of the New Haven during the 60's, they usually employed the E33's in pairs. so repainting isnt an option! but thanks for the reply, Donald.

B&O: doesnt it figure! You always want something after it disappears. Id love to have some Mehano GG1's. They are getting tough to find. Id love to see Spectrum do an AFFORDABLE GG1 in HO scale like ahm/ihc/mehano. I can't say that word for what's out now. Nice...but you need a bank loan for it.

Ive looked at pictures on the Bachmann parts page. It looks like the sd45 chassis is similar to the e33. For the purposes of making an unpowered dummy unit, that may do the trick. The EP chassis might work as well. At least the New Haven shells and pantos are available.

HO / Mr. Bachmann, a technical question for you
July 15, 2013, 12:59:47 PM
Im in the process of building a northeast corridor electric catenary layout in HO scale based on the New Haven Railroad of the 1960s or amtrak in the mid to late 1970's

With your fabulous model of the New Haven E33 currently discontinued, and difficult to acquire from retailers, even the large mail order houses ( I dont use ebay). I would like to assemble a loco from parts..even if its just a non powered dummy.

Can you tell me if the E33 shell available from your parts dept. will fit on the chassis of your current E60, or even the spectrum SD 45?

Or...

If an E60 body shell will fit onto the chassis of the E33 (I have a complete e33, but then I could just go the amtrak route instead. From what I can see from pictures on the parts site, it looks like that might work. They may be of similar length. i am an accomplished model and even if its tight, i could probably make it close.

Thanks for your time and keep up the good work.

Cheers

And another thing to add for those of you, like me, that may need some "save up" time, and what i appreciate about the power of Bachmann product .

When the time comes, i know it will not only be available, but also Ill be able to find one. I cant say that about alot of other manufacturers today.

Make plenty of EM 1's guys. its a home run

HO / When a major wrench gets thrown in the works!

id like some input from other modellers out there...

Have any of you ever done a major "course correction" due to a new product being released, such as a dream engine.

There recent few years have seen an explosion in new types of trains being released in model form. This Spectrum EM-1 is a major game changer for me. Fortuntely im oly working on benchwork and can change pretty easily.

I wonder how far some have gotten on layouts, then scrapped them due to their dream product being released

This announcement is a game changer for me.

Thank you Bachmann for releasing this steam locomotive.

I was planning a model railroad based on the new haven between new york and boston. thats now out.

Sand patch or Cranberry grade.... here we come.....

For those that know about this steamer, there is a great old story by JJ Young riding in the cab of one of these monsters in the 1976 winter issue of railfan magazine.

HO / bachmann's bigger steam locos and 18" radius
February 13, 2011, 02:37:39 PM
Question:

Will the larger locomotives such as the 2-10-4 and the Norfolk and western J  operate at all on 18" radius curves, or will the drivers derail? I know they will look goofy going round those curves, but i want to have an 18-19" turning radius using a hidden loop, so im just wondering if it will  work and am not worried about the appearance.

The catalog says performs best on 22" radius, so i guess that means it will work, will just look a bit silly doing so due to overhang

HO / Thanks bachmann

Got six of the new Potacan hoppers for Christmas!!!!Theyre awesome. Thanks for doing these as these were prevalent on the Burlington Northern during the 1970s, which is the focus of a new layout im building.

Keep up the good work

Large / G scale turnouts HELP
March 18, 2010, 05:22:53 PM
Went out to check on my layout after this rough winter, and all the throws on my aristo craft switches are shot, with the internal springs all rusted to pieces.

Anyone know of a company that makes good replacement throws for these, something like caboose industries does in smaller scales by chance? Id rather not buy all new turnouts. A turnout is useless without a throw that applies good tension.

Hopefully someone out there has some recommendations or has been through this.

"I bet not many manufacturers are going to go out on a limb for a GG, only to have MTH put one out right behind it."

Id like a GG1 for around a hundred bucks and preferrably less. You WONT get that from MTH and its greedy owner. Im so sick of their limited runs and questionable availability. ask some people that collect their o gage stuff. They do it on purpose to enhance "collectability" and "investment". I wish theyd go do baseball cards or something.

Thats why i prefer bachmann....I can find their product from numerous sources because its out there, not coming in three years and in a lot of 50 or less.

if not, ill settle for another run of e-33's in NEW HAVEN orange. boy they are tough to find as well

Theres definintiely a void to be filled now that IHC is no more. You guys already have the pantographs!

At least if Bachmann made it, you could find it. cant say the same for broadway limited

HO / The new UP DD40
January 10, 2010, 05:39:11 PM
What is the minimum radius that this new loco will operate on? are there any overhang issues if you have a 2 track mainline with curves (obviously the bigger the better, my guess is dont have curves under 22 inches for appearance sake?

HO / Isolating motor techniques for older dcc conversions
November 01, 2009, 11:50:25 AM
One thing ive noticed thats common in a lot of threads is converting older locomotives to dcc operation which usually involves hard wiring decoders in (which is pretty straightforward and easy unless you are dealing with n scale).

The biggest operation involed is isolating the motor from the frame and making sure no current is drawn from it, which is how many older locos are set up for. So, what mthods do you like to use that work and are durable as opposed to what methods dont work as well? Do you paint the contact points on the frame then apply scotch tape to the motor? remove parts of the frame that may touch, etc.

what have you had success with?  how many decoders have you cooked?

Cheers
