Thomas & Friends / Re: N Scale Bachmann Thomas
February 16, 2019, 12:02:29 PM
Quote from: BassTbone on February 16, 2019, 07:49:14 AMTomix never released past four engines, with the newer releases only being the first three.  I know from experience that the tooling for the newer ones was terrible.  I went through two James locos because they stripped gears with little use.  Tomix was also over-scaled.

Had the same happen to me as well. I'll never claim to be an expert on model-train anatomy, but my first James model, straight out the new box mind you, ran a few times around my squeaky-clean Tomix-sectional oval before inexplicably clamming up. Tried a few times to reset the power, did yet another track cleaning (it can never be too clean!), nothing. Ended up selling it for about half of what I originally got it for on eBay.
The thing I really didn't like about the Tomix line was the ENORMOUS power pack–in planning my layout I'm trying to fit the power pack into a corner of an approx. 3x6-ft. board and cover it with scenery, which is all but impossible with theirs... and if I'm not mistaken one can't use other brands of controllers with Tomix sectional track. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

Woof. A little early, don't you think, boyos? We're only another ~365 days out from the official reveals.

Well now. A new N gauge line, eh? Perhaps they bought the rights and toolings for the Tomix line from Tomy... if so, there's already two other models Bachmann have ready to go (James and Henry) for possible future release. Maybe we'll see that Gordon that Tomix supposedly announced then cancelled. I expect there would at least be re-done faces in CGI style, though.

A bit disappointed with the lack of new narrow-gauge models... I'm thinking (if I didn't sell them on eBay already, I don't remember to be honest) I can bust out my old ERTL Peter Sam and Sir Handel and do up my own NG versions. Others both here and elsewhere have done so iirc, so there's examples to work from.

I can take or leave the upcoming HO scale models. Don't have the space to work with them, not interested in newer characters/repaints of older rolling stock. In the meantime, I still have some HO engines to sell for some extra cash.

Quote from: TrainFan97 on January 27, 2019, 04:06:46 PMThat's the first time I've noticed someone change my words.

It wasn't a knock on you, mate. I just wanted to emphasize how terrible TatMR is in retrospect, at least in my eyes.

Quote from: TrainFan97 on January 26, 2019, 03:45:11 PMNo chance they would make Splatter and Dodge, due to being one-off characters from a movie that most Thomas fans that the range is aimed at haven't even heard of, let alone watched.

fixed
it's been 18 1/2 years since Magic Railroad debuted in theaters. that's older than most younger T&F modellers, and definitely older than >98% of active Thomas fans. it was so poorly received even among the fanbase that many have just memory-holed it. this is a useless factoid but I just wanted to emphasize how terrible and irrelevant T&tMRR is.

Dumb question, but... official announcements when?

February 15th

Thanks bud. Crossing my fingers for Peter Sam and/or Sir Handel to round out the "Four Little Engines".

I doubt there are more than maybe a few hundred "serious" Thomas modellers out there, and even fewer who make their voices heard by Bachmann on here or anywhere else. I think we tend to overestimate our influence on their year-to-year productmaking decisions with the Thomas line.

As long as Peter Sam, Sir Handel, and some new rolling stock are added to the narrow gauge range I'm satisfied.

for the NG range–just model Peter Sam and Sir Handel after their current TV appearances. no alternate nameplates, alternate funnel for Peter Sam, nothing fancy. they're the next logical step, throw in some red or blue/cream coaches and a brake van and you have all the bases covered for both character selection and rolling stock selection.

I swear I'm not a spammer, but I just need to unload some Thomas stuff, mainly engines #1-9 in HO. All in great condition; Percy, whose funnel rim has come off, otherwise looks and runs just fine. PM me for pics and prices... I'd be happy to help you add to your "new acquisitions".

No, and protip: you don't need to make a different thread for every question you have.

When is Rusty supposed to be debuting again?
