I have the same engine and it runs fine. I would take it back and get a replacement. Bachmann does offer to replace a defective loco as far as I know. Don't mess with it. The engine and tender details can be easily damaged. I know by experience. Just my thoughts.

I use a NCE Power Cab. It cost about $140 plus shipping. My layout is about 10 feet by 22 feet. I run no more than three engines at one time and that is a challenge.

You must not have searched very much. Bachmann sells engines that might qualify.

Also eBay. Search for old time or civil war etc.

I see engines and rolling stock regfularly. Some of it is labeled for US Military Railrod.

Mantua has some rolling stock that might work. Model Power sells the Mantual old time line.

Make sure to sign up for the Yahoo Civil War group I mentioned. There is a lot of information in the Groups files and photos sections. There is also a Civil War photos group.

Don't depend on one or two groups for model railroad information. Ok, if you just want a social group, this forum will be ok.

hi...i'm trying to design a display from around 1949-1965...out west...i want to show miners and tunnels...and a lot of rocks...so i want a train from that era...i'm also looking for anything wooden and already finished...(wood portals, tressels etc.)...and i'm looking for those dump cars they used then...both wooden side and the "v" kind...but i can't find them in HO...
i've been looking at the central pacific and union pacific steam locomotives...am i in the right area? i like the 4-4-0 (#119 and the jupiter)...any help will be most appreciated...thanking you in advance...

I assume you mean 1849-1865? Read your first post.
Go join a Yahoo Civil War group.

Go to trains.com, the Cisco Kid seems to have solved the problem.

He must be your twin brother.

Welcome

Here are a couple suggestions.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Below copied from http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=wiringfordcc

I have used Hirose Electric type DF3, 2mm pitch connector parts from DigiKey for
that purpose with good results on HO scale locos. These are rather small and
rated at 3 amps. With care, the socket pins can be crimped with a small needle
nose pliers. I wrap and solder tender side wires to PCB pins on a single row
header, glue it to the tender and paint black. The plug is polarized. I use a
7 pin header & socket (2 for power, 2 for motor, 2 for headlight, 1 for chuff
sync). wire them all the same for interchangability.

You can also find 1.25mm and 1mm pitch connectors in the DigiKey capalog.
www.digikey.com. the problem is that they can be too small to work with without
having a PCB or an expensive crimping tool.

Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/ and search for dcc. You will see how many dcc groups exist.

I've got an HO 2-6-0 that I'd like to outfit w/ a DCC decoder (sound not needed, but it'd be a nice bonus...i won't lose sleep over it though).  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
DM

What brand?  Age of loco?

Glad to hear the Mantua will accept Kadee couplers.  The two cars I need  (combine and coach) are mostly for display, so I can live with the plastic wheels.   Mantua has a set, lettered Pennsy, but would be easy to paint that out since it is on the smooth part above the windows.
Seems my choices are limited, as I had expected , so will order the Mantua when they are available.   The vintage cars might make a comeback, they seem very popular in ON30.

I have a lighted mag gooseneck that clamps onto the bench, works great.
Thanks for the replies.
Bo
Some years ago I removed the horn hooks on my Overton cars and installed Kadee #5s. The cars looked ridiculous, kind of like a little boys wearing his fathers shoes. The #5s are oversize. I switched over all my rolling stock and engines to Kadee old time couplers. They look and run quite well.
Actually link & pin would be more appropiated for pre 1890 but you have to enjoy pain to use those. I have a work train with link & pin.

Thanks! some great sites.
I figured this would be a good place to ask since my LHS is temporarily shut down (no, I dont know why). I plan to add an HO standard guage and a HOn30 interchange in some newly acquired space about 3'x5'. progress will be slow as usual while I try to graduate, but it will get done.
I guess you are not aware that the 'Net is a huge library. Go to the General Discussion forum and look at this post. REAL LOCO FACTS REF.
For some reason the person posting has to yell ( All caps) the subject. Maybe a light just went on.
He does make a good point about searching.  Many in forums of all kind, very seldom ever figure this out. I do realize some people have no social skills and use the forums to make up for it.
Do a search in google.com yahoo.com ask.com

Good luck

When you get the resistance value, use the below link to find the resistor wattage. I tried to find the wattage calculator at the LED center Site but it must be well hidden.

Correct.

http://www.tonystrains.com/technews/install-leds-decoders.htm

You can always cheat and do a search with www.google.com if you get a question like this in the future. Most of the time the answer is out there.
As an example, do a search for led dcc.

Try http://www.nwsl.com/
I bought HO scale wheels for a 4-2-4 CP Huntington loco.
They answer the phone and email.

HO / Re: spectrum 2-8-0 wires cut
May 29, 2007, 09:27:27 PM
The only thing I can think of is to ring out the leads using an ohm meter. On paper put down what each pin on a 9 pin JST connector of the decoder is used for. There are six wires connected to the engine. Two for pickup power, two for the motor, and two for the headlight.
Find some way to mark each wire. I have done this before but it takes time and patience.

You did not say if the wires from the engine had one or two connectors and exactly where the wires are cut.
