You won't need to open up the locomotive to add smoke. Just use the included vial to drop a few drops directly down the smoke stack.

The roof on the On30 Boxcar is separate from the walls on the body and connected by four small tabs. You can remove it to access the interior by carefully detaching the brake wheel from the end of the car and removing it, then gently prying the roof off from the edges.

It sounds like your locomotive is stuck in Light Mode (not "Night Mode"- I thought that was what it said too when I first heard it!)

Pressing the function 8 key three times should toggle out of Light Mode and back into the regular function pagination.

This is not a Bachmann model- Bachmann has never made a two dome tank car, a metal freight car, or any trains in Japan.

Bachmann has not made the Union Pacific Big Boy in any scale. We don't have any current plans to do so, but never say never.

Yes, like all of our DCC locomotives, the DCC Sound on Board Thomas and Percy have dual-mode decoders and will work on DC layouts.

This seems like it may be an issue with the locomotive, not the E-Z Command Plus. I would recommend contacting Lionel support.
