Ok, since the thread just suddenly got deleted, a new one now has to be started. (The original starter deleted himself and the threads for some unknown reason..)
Recently, i just finished a new model called 'Jolly', who is not a TV or RWS character, but my own fantasy character, made using a Toy Story 3 loco that i bought for £10 and have modified to have valve gear, also added a triang tender to the model, since it was the only one i felt that was suitable for this type of locomotive.

Let's just hope this one doesn't explode into another argument with Churchill. Anyways, as I said before, looks far better than the original Toy Story loco. Out of curiosity though, what face did you use? Looks like Bash or Dash's.
The face is from a wooden Bash model, it seemed to suit Jolly quite well, so i went with it. :)
I do agree that it is better than the original toy, in that it has a tender. I never understood why they made it without a tender in the first place.
I am also 100% supportive of making new characters. I have done the same thing myself and may show them off sometime.
I have started on a new character, G. Ruffy, S.C. Ruffy's twin! He is from the other railway and will make and apperance in my new series! He has stubble, and will have weathering, and, will be much more aggressive and rude than S.C. Ruffy. Sometimes bad characters are fun. ::) I will post a video of him when he is done. :)
Nicely done, Stepney55! I think the face suits the engine well. The modification with the valve gear is rather nice too.
Will you be doing anything else to the loco? I noticed that Hank from Season 12 of Thomas & Friends had buffers on his tender, but not on his front. Do you think you'll be doing something like that, or leaving the tender the way it is?
If and when your original character debuts in your series, I look forward to the day. :)
G. Ruffy (heh, nice one) sounds like an interesting sort of Truck. If you need a voicer, let me know. I'm still working on my audition video for your series.. :)
I look forward to seeing how he looks when he's finished.
All this modelling talk makes me more and more want to start myself! I have plans to modify a Bachmann Junior 0-6-0 Saddletank into something.. else.. but that'll have to wait until I can get the funds to get one. ::)

I will in fact need a voicer! Gruff voice for Gruffy. Oh, and by the way, Stepney55, Fantastic work! I am impressed! ;)

I had actually thought about adding a buffer-beam to Jolly's tender, so hopefully a similar job will be done like Hank's. :)
For those that haven't already seen it, here is my completed Harvey the Crane Engine model. I apologize for having to repost these photos, but i really don't know why the thread was deleted in the first place, really no need for it at all, but beggars can't be choosers i suppose.

Now that's a great Harvey model, Stepney, definitely a significant improvement over the original--Especially the crane arm (which I just can't ignore! ;D). I see you have reused the paper/card decals from the old model, have you ever considered using custom transfers?
In regards to Jolly, I'm not terribly crazy about fan characters (or American steam locos) but I'll say this much--The model does look a whole lot better than it's original form, and the face fits well (both in terms of size and character).
Having said that, however, your other models certainly have my more positive attention and in particular, your Daisy model has convinced me to try my own hand at a Daisy project, as a cheap and easy first loco project. Hoping to have videos and photos of the project up here and on Youtube very soon.
Looking forward to your next project,
JWR3001
Yes, that crane arm is impressive. :) I can't wait for episode 4 of your series. Will Harvey make an apperance?
@ Stepney55: Nice work on both Jolly and Harvey! You're a very talented modeller! :D
Episode 4 has been delayed whilst the layout is refurbished, I'm currently redoing the track work and replacing all the old tatty track with new bits. But hopefully he will make a cameo appearance in the background.
And thanks very much for the comments guys, my next project is hopefully going to be an accurate model of Diesel 10. The face i am still deciding on, but my thoughts point towards the track-master magic railroad version, as well as the DOTD, CGI one. :)

Nice model! Where did you get the tender? I thought Triang only made British locos.
The tender was purchased from Ebay about a week ago for £7.50, Triang made Transcontinental locos as well as British Outline ones, and the tender happened to come from a 'Davey Crockett' 2-6-0 loco, where that tender originated, but sadly the loco didn't come with the tender, so, i gave the tender to Jolly. :)

I had a feeling you'd pick him for your next project. The face is pretty hard to get right, it's probably the only obstacle stopping me from trying a Diesel 10 project.
From what I've heard, the Bandai Diesel 10 face is pretty much perfect in terms of size and character, but due to it's rarity, you may as well write that one off. The Trackmaster Magic Railroad face on the other hand, is a bit wide and even with a fair amount of sanding, I don't think the whole face with fit onto a OO scale Warship (whereas the DOTD face does).
Either way, looking forward to seeing progress,

You know, I too plan to do a Diesel 10 project sometime. I'm sorry if I am stealing the idea from anyone, but it's something that I've always wanted to do. After all, Diesel 10 is my all time favorite Thomas character. Good luck with your Diesel 10 project though, Stepney55 :)

Your character "Jolly" looks great! ;D
Although you don't have to do this, but... maybe Jolly would make a good character for your Railway Stories of Sodor series. ;)
I will be using Jolly at some point in the series alongside Hank, but that won't be for a while yet.
I can happily say that work on Diesel 10 has began. The LIMA 'Warship' i have, has been cut in half to make it shorter, since Diesel 10 only has three vents on each side, i am working from some screenshots to ensure the accuracy is correct, i will post up photos shortly of his working in progress. ;)

Well done on Jolly and Harvey, how did make his crane arm?
The crane arm was made out of styrene sheet with help from a friend of mine, who has also built a model similar to mine, and was kind enough to give me the templates for making the arm.
I'm now working on my next new project, Diesel 10, while the chassis for the two SE&CR 'P' Class 0-6-0s are being built to resemble 'Bluebell' & 'Primrose', it's gonna be a while before these kits are built, at least until i get the chassis back from a kit builder who lives locally, just waiting for his phone call so i can go and pick them both up.
Diesel 10 is being made from a LIMA Class 42 'Warship', which currently i have cut in half along with the chassis to make it the same size as the screen captures of Diesel 10 as shown in the Magic Railroad, Calling All Engines and Day of the Diesels movies.

That's cool man, I admire your layout. When I move into a bigger place I am building a replica of all of Sodor, I have the space and I could really use a lot of your help with design, if you want to help.
Id be happy to help you out, in any way that i can. :)
My partner and I are looking at building a replica of Sodor as well, but with our favorite scenes from Series 1, once we have enough money to move into our own place.
Yeah same, it's just me though and I am doing my favorite sets from seasons 1-7 plus narrow gauge (only seasons 4-5) but I want the big goods yard in season 2, knapford, Gordon's hill etc. It will be years of work but great fun. What I was hoping is a way to bring all he seasons sets together, for seasons that have different sets of the same places like wells worth for example, I will just choose my favorite look for it. But I do hope to have almost everything modeled.
If you have a Skype you could PM me your username and we could talk when you can.
pm sent. :)
Right now i am just starting to work on the body for diesel 10, gluing the bits back together, and any gaps i find will be filled in with 'Squadron Products' white putty, this stuff is good for all kinds of modelling.
I am building a replica of Sodor too! :D As seen in my two layout updates (Tidmouth sheds and Henry's tunnel), I've already started! ;D
Sounds great mate! ;D
Can't wait to see how all these projects turn out, as for Diesel 10, I'll post new updated photos a little later. So far, he is starting to take shape, I've filled in the gaps with model filler from where the body was cut in half and glued back together.
The chassis has been rebuilt and glued together, just needs weight in it now, which i will sort with Deluxe Materials 'Liquid Gravity'.
One thing I thought would always be problematic when making Diesel 10 would be cutting and resizing the chassis (due to all the electrics and working parts etc). But from those photos you uploaded earlier (and from the sounds of it) it seems you have done it like it was nothing at all--Can't wait to see more photos!

Cool! Juy wondering? How do you plan on making the claw? Just wondering. My goal in fact is not to make the original Sodor but a small town with a main rail line passing through. It helps with ideas for stories. Can't wait to see more ;)
Thanks guys.
I'm getting help once again from my friend, Skarloeyfan, with the design of the claw, it will be made from styrene sheets like the Harvey model was, and hopefully will be moveable. ;)
I've now got both the CGI and Magic Railroad faces from the Trackmaster models of Diesel 10, so it looks as though they will be interchangeable for different episodes, once he is fully finished, but more progress pics will be posted via the blog and this board.
Thank you all for your kindness and positive feedback so far, it's nice to know there are some modellers out there, who appreciate what people like me can do, and i hope to continue modelling for as long as it takes. :)
Something really good for the claw if it is to scale, as I think it is, is the claw off the BANDAI Diesel 10. What do you think?

I don't know tj219??
I think that the bandai is kinda plasticy when his model appears different than the plastic used in the bandai.
Otherwise, who knows? That might be a good idea.
I built this car a while ago, but thought I would share it here. Two events brought this about. First, finding one of my son's old toys (a Tidmouth Milk wagon) and realizing it might make a good model, and a friend giving me an old Airfix Esso tank car kit - without the tank (he wanted the tank for another project).
I had to shorten the chassis of the Airfix kit to fit the toy tank. The tank is about the same length as the Bachmann tank, but smaller in diameter - but since the chassis sits higher, the net result is negligible. I'm fairly pleased with how it turned out.

I also used some Bachmann wheel sets - the ones that came with the kit were pretty bad. You may notice that I am also using Kadee couplers - I find they are a lot more reliable than any other style.
The only thing I was disappointed with was the mold line across the middle of the tank. To be honest, it didn't become apparent until after I applied the weathering.

I don't think so. Isn't Ertl the same as Take-n-Play? With magnetic couplings? This didn't have magnets. It would be about 15 years old. My son had a lot of mixed Thomas toys.
ertl had little hooks and t&p had magnets
i think the tanker is from tomy track master
They don't if you remove the tank, I believe that is an ERTL.
It' still impressive either way. :)

You don't know how big headed that makes you sound...
Looking good Stepney! Cannot wait to see you progress with this! Any chance of Dodge, Splatter and Lady afterwards? ;D

Splatter and Dodge are being considered, and Lady is a definite yes. :)

pretty sure you weren't the one who started that, I'm sure other people have also had the idea, but since its a little trivial and a given, they probably didn't bring it up...
The Warship is the model he is based on so....
um.. people have been making models of Diesel 10 since the movie came out in 2002..
Nobody gave me the inspiration to make him shorter, i decided to model him accurately, from working with tv and movie screen captures, so.. it wasn't actually yours or anyone's idea to make him.
And it's coming along great
Your Diesel 10 looks great so far, Stepney!
Thanks guys, really do appreciate all your feedback, and as a surprise, alongside Diesel 10, someone else is currently being made in between, a character who was in the series, who was introduced in 2003. :)
Won't give out anymore hints till nearer completion, but some of you might know who it is i am talking about, but don't say it out loud though, i am sure that he will be a truly good model once finished.
Wow.That diesel 10 looks awesome! It looks like your using the trackmaster claw.Im also glad to hear that Lady will follow up.Im so excited to see work on her start! What will you use for her chassis and wheels?? I may just follow your work and make my own model of Lady! ;D
Looking good, Stepney. I especially like the fact that you cut out the front of the model to fit the face in--I think (in all TTTE model projects) it really improves how the face looks on the model, like it belongs, as opposed to being blue-tacked straight onto the front of the model, often dangling or sticking out too far from the model. The claw is looking good, too.
I have a question to ask, though. Today I received a Triang Class 101 DMU Twin Car Set in the mail, which I plan to use for a Daisy project, inspired by your own. I've got the project planned up until the detailing stage, however I'm not sure where to get the detailing parts, such as handrails, as well as the front and back lamps. Remembering back to your Daisy project, can you remember where you got these parts from, what company made them, and the product names/numbers? Even if you can't remember perfectly, any pointers will help greatly!
Thanks,
JWR3001
The handrails were made using Albion Alloys thin wire and Markits handrail knobs, the lining by pressfix transfers and the lamps came from a Bachmann Percy which i had laying around.
Hope this helps, also, I've got updates on Diesel 10's progress.
He is now primed and setting nicely, the claw mechanism is done, but i think it will remain static, i tried making it moveable, but it proved to be a bit hectic, it moves slightly, but not as much as i had hoped, but never mind. :)
Thanks alot for the pointers, Stepney, they'll really help me in my project. The only question it raises is, wouldn't you have to have had 3-4 Bachmann Percy models just to get all the lamps you needed for your project?
Anyway, I'll be starting that project soon--You don't mind if I upload pics on this thread, do you?
Oh and don't worry so much about Pinchy--I haven't attempted a Diesel 10 build myself, but I'm sure it can't be easy to both design the claw and construct it to move--Better to just do what you can and perhaps sometime in the future you can come back to it & improve on it.
Also joined your forum, BTW.

You're most welcome mate, and yes, please do post photos up, this also applies to everyone here too, this isn't just for my works i am doing, EVERYONE can post their works in progress and other model creations in this thread, and i am sure we can all help to improve one another's works as well. :D
EDIT POST: Here are the completed photos of Diesel 10.

Although the claw doesn't move around like in the movies, it does open and close, i think it looks better static myself. :)
Wow, is that spectacular or what?! Great job, mate! :)
Awsome! The classic face looks great!
Whoa. That is, I'm going to quote here, "~Simply Epic~". ::) :D :)
EDIT: The classic face suits him, but the CGI face seems to fit better. All this talk of modeling is really making me want to start on G.Ruffy!
Looks great Stepney!
Thanks! :)
Really glad he turned out how i was hoping he would, the claw isn't fully functional, but, i will try and come up with a solution to make his arm adjustable a bit later, but for now, it shall remain static.
Thanks again too everyone who has enjoyed what I've created and posted so far, i know that the other places I've posted these photos, someone who shall remain nameless is bound to say that the paint is 'albeit rather badly with the likes of paper nameplates and sloppy paintwork'.
But, do i care? No, i'm happy with it! ;)
You've done amazing work on Diesel 10! well done.
Comment and question: First, the model looks great. I wouldn't be too concerned about making the claw move - but that's just me.
Second - The third photo I think I can see the joint seam - but in all the other photos it appears to smooth. Could it be that the third photo was taken before you were finished? Anyway - looks good now!
The photos were taken before the model was finished fully, but if the joint seem is still there, i will fix that before i make the test video of him. :)
Right, to save wasting anymore time, i am gonna get this topic back on track.
Here are some photos of earlier works of mine.

Bluebell and Primrose are still on the cards to be modeled, just waiting to get the chassis back so i can motorize them, but until i get the chassis, the kits will be put to one side. I am hoping to find some more Bachmann 08's at the Alexander Palace show this month to possibly look at starting Splatter and Dodge.
Lady, is being considered, but again, need to get a suitable chassis to do her, so i guess Splatter and Dodge will be my next planned characters to model. :)

Can't see it in some of the photos - maybe it's the lighting. Still looks good to me.
No worries mate, and thanks. :)
I'm just glad the faces fit him as well as they do, i had to cut them down shorter as they over-hung the front of the model first of all, but now that they have been scaled down, they look the part!
And here I was legitimately convinced that the Trackmaster Magic Railroad face couldn't be made to fit without losing half an eye on each end! A very nice model (and made in good time, too!).
Looking forward to the test video,

Nice job Stepney and shining time.
Nice model there, shining time. :)
Some trackmaster faces do fit on most OO/HO models without needing to be modified at all, but, the Diesel 10 ones, as i said before, needed to be worked on and shortened due to being too long in length to fit on the front of the warship body, a hacksaw was very handy to do this, and carefully making sure that both edges remained equal each side to ensure a good fit.
The paintwork for Diesel 10 is a Humbrol Acrylic No. 93.
I really do want to get started in the world of modelling soon, particularly Thomas & Friends. All I currently have are a few American diesels. I do plan to do a Lady project, by using Bill and Ben's chassis with modified cylinders.
Look forward to it mate, if you get stuck and need a hand, I'm sure that few people here will be more than happy to give you a few pointers and tips. :)
thxs the model wasn't hard until i had to match the paint
While i was working on Diesel 10, i was also working on a little something extra too, I've made him once before using a Triang tank engine back in 2009, but now, i have redone the model, with a better chassis that looks more accurate, and similar paint to that used on the Series 7 model.
The original Arthur model i made and painted LMS Crimson Lake, i am giving to my partner, but he just needs a touch up on the lining here and there and also needs a new face, which i will make for him using latex modelling rubber.
But here, are some photos of the Arthur i have almost finished, just requires lining, lettering and a touch up here and there.

This model has been made using different parts from other locos, the chassis is from a Hornby Fowler 2-6-4T the steam feed pipes are from a Trackmaster Rosie and the front footplate steps are from old plastic kits, not sure which though, but so far, he is looking more like the real thing, lining and letter as i said above is all that he needs now, and no need to worry about the cylinder covers, they have been painted too. :)

can u do molly or charlie ?
coz im loving auther right now
I won't be doing much more of the newer characters until i have sorted out my other projects first, still got a fair way to go before i can think of working on anyone else, besides, I'm not rushing these, would rather take my time before rushing into another project without finishing off the one i just started.
He will be considered though, but i doubt i will be making him for a long while to come.
Nice to see that you're revisiting Arthur. The progress so far already looks promising & the paint looks good, too.
If you're interested, I crafted up an "LMS" decal last year in Adobe Photoshop which (if you don't already have one) I could send to you to use on your model. There are a few imperfections, but only within the pixels themselves, these are ultimately not seen when the size is decreased for use on a model. The letters themselves can be easily rearranged, resized and the whole thing can be printed out onto Laser/Inkjet transfer for use on models. I had originally planned to use it myself, but since I'm not currently working on an Arthur project, it might as well go to someone who is.
Even if you're not interested, the model looks great in terms of structure and colour, it looks very much like the TV Series model so far, and I'm sure it will even more so once the lining and lettering is applied.
JWR3001
Thanks for the offer mate, i do have some pressfix transfers for the LMS loco lettering and yellow loco lining too, but if you wanna send them anyways, by all means do, as i could put them to good use with other models. :)
Will pm you shortly with my e-mail.
On the subject of Arthur, the lining is now taking shape!
Arthur II is looking great so far! I still think the Trackmaster Face is a little odd, but it's better than the Wooden Railway face, and it looks like it fits properly, so I move on.
Will you be making any different facial expressions for Arthur, or any of your other engines, like Diesel 10, like you've done in the past, or will you be relying on photo-editing when it comes to episode making?
I wish you luck with the lining, I hope it comes out just right. :)
I am looking at making a few extra resin faces for Arthur later on, and the lining is completed. :)

Wow.Arthur is certainly splendid looking. The red color is amazing, and the lining is just perfect, almost looks factory made!Btw,whats the story on Lady?Im srry to be such a pest, but im really looking forward to seeing her. :) cant wait to see Splodge too!Soon you'll have the whole TATMR gang!
That is an excellent model, Stepney. Though, it still needs some minor adjustments, such as straightening the foot plate to a sort of 90 degree angle where it rises, and adding a hosepipe at the front. Other than that, for such a quick project, you did a great job.

I had thought about straightening the footplate, again, something i am looking at working on, same with the hosepipe, don't be put off in any way, like i said, criticism is welcomed to make improvements! ;D
Looks really good, Stepney. I can't tell you how much it reminds me of the Season 7 model...really excellent choice of paint and base model/chassis.

My Edward baybeh :P but seriously you did do an amazing job on the coaches, and stepney, awesome Artur, but where did you get the screwlink couplings from, I might try adding them to my trains, but need to know where their from, sprinkle us with your wisdom stepney ;) :)
Nice coaches there, I remember seeing them on SRMF. Got to say they look smart with Edward ;D
Been working on my own Arthur too.

Whilst you could say he was a Standard 3MT on the show, they were never LMS locomotives. Given his livery, I'd put my money on him being an Ivatt 2MT as used by the LMS. That said, I feel the 2MT is far closer to the one on the show. Regardless, either is suitable for conversion.
I bought the donor model a few years ago with the aim of making him, but I guess I wasn't sure on how to go about it. The obvious modification needed was removing the top feed from the boiler, and this thankfully came off with a few scrapes of my trusty scalpel. I then sanded it down and got it smooth, before filling in holes left by the cuts.
The donor also had it's rivets removed, as these are not present on Arthur in the Television series. This meant sanding the roof, boiler and sides to get them flush.

A coat of primer later showed a few imperfections, although these were later sorted out. As he stands now, it's coming along nicely. Some transfer paper has been ordered so I can complete him as a fully accurate TV series model. Posed here with his wooden face, which may be thinned down so it doesn't stick out as much.

Thanks to a friend and some very helpful advice, i have made some adjustments to Arthur's running plate/buffer beam, it has been made straight and more accurate, will post updated photos later.
Looking forward to it.

Happy with how it looks now, thanks to Skarloey for the helpful hint. :)
That is a good face, Caleb. I already gave my critique though on the video. As for the Arthur models from both Stepney and Churchill, yours is going fine Churchill, despite the few sections of footplate to be added at the front, and as for Stepney, your welcome for the advice, and I can see it still needs a slight more bit of work, particularly smoothing out the footplate where it was edited.
I think i'll work on it abit more over the weekend and get the grooves smooth out with a file and some model putty, i'm hoping that the last few bits will ensure that the plate is smooth and more accurate.
If all else fails, i will redo the footplate, got plenty of styrene sheets in certain thickness's. :)

That would
my option
The joys of modelling. :)
But yes it will most certainly be worked on through the weekend, won't be too long before the next model railway exhibition, where i aim to find more Diesel shunters for my next project conversions. :)
Paxton, is just needing a face, since he's already done, but i am waiting for the release of the Trackmaster model.
Arry and Bert, i will make similar to my partners models, since he did a really lovely job on his diesels, he's inspired me to update my own versions. Just again, need to get another Trackmaster Arry/Bert model.
Splatter and Dodge, the two side-kicks of Diesel 10, should be easy enough to do.
Morning all.
Well, after a lot of careful work, it looks as though i have had to build a whole new front running plate for Arthur, which isn't a bad thing really IMO, makes room for much needed improvements, and after some careful time and work cutting, filing and gluing, the new buffer beam, is now much better than the original.

Looking at TV references above for the running plate, I've been able to adapt one to suit my model using what styrene sheets i had available, and so far, i am pleased with the results of the work done.

Steps and vacuum pipes are the only things left to add before i prime and paint the new running plate, overall though, i think it looks great, especially for this class of LMS engine.
Nicely done on Arthur
Thank you very much, I'll have more photos of the finished work sorted in the week. :)
Looking good!
Thanks very much, they say that third times a charm for most things. ;)
So hopefully, this WILL be the very last time any modifications are made to the model, once the last details are finalized, that will be it, no more work will be done to Arthur, he will be noted down in my books as done and dusted!
Ah, much better :) Great job as usual!

Much better now that it looks more like him!
I like how you stop at absolutely NOTHING in order to achieve perfection! ;D
Considering how far Arthur has become since you started the model, it looks great! If I was to model though, I would always have a reference shot with me. I don't really think you did, considering the footplate at first. (No offense) Great job though.

No, when i started him, i didn't use a ref pic, which was a bit silly of me, but for the final version, pictured above, a ref shot or two was used to get it right! :)
Thanks to everyone for the help and advice, really hope that you all enjoy my future works to come too.
As usual mate, a great job. I do love Arthur and I think you've captured him perfectly here.
Thanks TRI. ^^
I'll have my next new project with details announced in the next coming week, currently focusing on OO stuff at the moment, but there is also a high possibility that i will be redoing my 009 Skarloey stock this year too, so stay tuned!
The Red Coaches, known by their livery, are one of the most demanded items for OO/HO scale. Whilst neither Bachmann or Hornby are quick in making their own, I've decided to go ahead with mine.
I have about 7 Bachmann Annie/Clarabel models I purchased in bulk. The reason for doing so is conversion projects, but I fancy a rake of 3 red coaches, with two composites and one brake. Using 3D printing, I was able to make a near accurate end for the coach, which simply glues on.
It's worth noting that you have to remove the face on the donor model, but it is worth it to get a flush surface. Another thing I've yet to do is modify the roofs, but I shall do this when I have all 3 done.

Hopefully I'll have the duckets and parts for the brake arrive soon, so I can start working on it. I'm rather impressed with how they have printed, as it's far neater than I could have done with plasticard. ;D
Jack
I was wondering when you'd finally get to doing this. Let me know when the parts for the brake coach come in. I have some spare Annie and Clarabels I'd like to try this with.
Looking good so far, Church! ;)
Great job on the W.I.P. coaches, Jack. I can't wait to see the finished products!
As for my modelling, I've managed to find a few reference shots for my RWS Ffarquhar station layout. and I've already started setting up a track plan. As for rolling stock, I think I will start with a RWS Thomas (Post Thomas Comes to Breakfast) by literally creating a new front for Thomas, while keeping the same hooks, lamp irons, and buffers. thankfully, the footplate is a separate piece, so while repainting it black, I won't worry about getting any on the main body shell.

Looking at the parts, it should be about $20 for the parts to make 3 composite coaches and 1 brake coach. This will include the replacement roof vents and a few misc details.
Yesterday I continued working on the first one. At the moment I'm making two composites as I'm still working on the parts to make the brake end. One thing I have noticed is the new ends do stand out by a millimeter or so, but it's not too noticeable.
Not a huge difference, but still adds a bit of length to the body.
As you can see, I got the body into a coat of primer to ensure everything was flush and smooth. My biggest fear was creating something that wasn't identical to the Bachmann end, but it's extremely close.

Quite happy with how it turned out, so I cleaned a few areas and sprayed it again, making sure everything was clean and flush.

After letting it dry, I proceeded with the body paint. Whilst I did buy it for Arthur, I do have a large can of the stuff so I have plenty. Not a 100% match for the TV series, but I prefer it. Reminds me of Midland Railway livery infact.

Few shots to show how it compares to Annie & Clarabel. I've yet to paint the chassis and alter the cab roof.

Just got the other 2 to do to so I can have a rake, then I'll have a nice bespoke set of coaches. Currently working on the other composite, and I should have the brake end done soon.
Any comments, questions and criticism are welcomed!

Looks good Jack. Are you going to paint the frame and roof?
Looking forward to the brake coach - are you going to make the extended bay in the back?
Well done on the coaches, Jack!
Paxton is nearly done, just needs a face, which i am waiting on, since the wooden one is too small to fit.

Some of the models have/use nameplates and numbers i printed myself since there arn't any available as transferes, but i don't really care too much about that, i enjoy making my own bits for my models, a good friend of mine makes his models using printed designs for some of his scratchbuild models, and they have been very good use. :)
He has inspired me to use these designs for my own scratchbuild projects later in the year.
Brilliant! Can't wait to see Paxton with a face. ;)

Many thanks mate, hopefully will have him updated very soon. :)
Stepney, my man, I am very impressed by the quality of your models. Lining looks good on Paxton, a little 'wobbly', but I would NOT have the patience to do it as well as you have.
The other diesels look great too; I love Daisy and Derek, thought I think Daisy needs a brakepipe on her front(correction, two pipes) bufferbeam to complete her look. Other than that, she's marvelous.
D261 and Stuck Up look good, can't help feeling the latter's face looks too kind for the character, but the rest of the engine looks good. I see you've updated BoCo's face, (filled in the mouth), very nice, and your Steam engines look great too. Wilbert's my personal favorite out of the three, but you've done well with all your models. =)
And Church, the coaches are coming along great.
Some models still require abit of work, but i appreciate the feedback all the same, and hope to get all the models up to date and accurate soon as. :)
can't wait to see paxton! your in luck with the face though, i heard trackmaster is coming out with the green diesel and luke
Thank you, i will keep you all posted on Paxton's progress along with my other new projects!
I did find a model at the Alexander Palace model show in London that will be suitable to do Belle, so that is also something to look forward to, and thanks to my friend, Skarloeyfan, i now have drawings for another special project, which again, will be announced soon via the blog if not here. 8)
Paxton looks awsome.
Cheers for that. :)
Belle will be started at the weekend, if not sooner, I've bought a few new items today which will come in handy with making her, so be sure to check back soon for new work in progress pictures. The donor model is a Hornby Dublo 4MT Class 2-6-4T which has been cleaned up here and there, and runs nicely.
I did consider buying a Bachmann 4MT Class 2-6-4T, but i don't see the point in spending hundreds of pounds on decent looking models just to turn them into Thomas models, though i am a British outline collector myself, it just doesn't seem right to fork out for models that look as good as they are.
Most of my models i have used for my projects, are second hand, most of which are clean and well looked after, and usually good bargain prices at the collectors fairs, ranging between £30 to £50 at max.
One tip i will give modellers, is to look around the stalls first before buying what you first lay your eyes on for a project, sometimes you will find that other sellers will usually knock down the price from what they are asking for it. Some sellers will say that they have tested the models, but it's best to always double-check before walking away with what you have bought, I've found this in the past with some sellers, and most models don't work. Most sellers now will test the models you purchase before you walk away with them, i did this with my Arthur, and the guy was more than happy to show it working on some track with a controller, so that i knew it worked.
Outstanding! I quite like your model of Wilbert, 16, and Bluenose. TUGS reference perhaps?
I thought Bluenose was from the Railway series for some strange reason

Bluenose is indeed a TUGS reference. :)
Modeled him on a Hornby LMS Class 8F locomotive, painted in Wartime blue with yellow and black loco lining, he was heavily weathered with a few rust patches, to indicate work worn conditions from sea salt in the air. He is a fantasy character, not a TV or RWS one.
I have made a couple more fantasy engines, they just require faces at the moment.
Reginald is one of those engines, isn't he? I seem to remember the character appearing in your old series..
How many other Fantasy engine characters do you think you have?
Those all look amazing Stepney!

Both are too small, in fact.
Sparks is right, i haven't used either faces because both are far too small to fit the front of the Bachmann 08.
And yes, Reginald is indeed another fantasy character, named him after C. Reginald Dalby, who illustrated the first set of RWS books, I am working on two more locos the same class as Reginald, but names are to be announced later in the year.
what class of engine is reginld ??? ???
He's based on an 0-6-0 J94, in LNER Apple Green.
The model i used is the same from the Bachmann Junior range here in the UK (Not the one that looks like Thomas), again, i have planned two more engines on the same class, who i created on paper years back, who are finally going to get some spotlight. :)
Stepney, when you re-do your 009 models (like you said you would on your blog), will you add handrails, piping and rivets to make them more CGI style? They would look incredible!

Lemmie guess...the second one is "John" (after John T Kenney, the second RWS illustrator) and the other would be "Peter" or "Gunvor" (after Peter and Gunvor Edwards, the third illustrators). Am I right?
A good choice of names, i did consider them actually. :)

I'm looking at adding her water-cannons today by drilling holes in her tank water filler caps, I'm not really sure as to where i can find any lamps to go on her buffer beam, but i have added a headlamp to her smoke-box from the trackmaster model.
Still got a fair way to go yet, but from the feedback I've had on the World of Thomas Modelling Board, friends cannot wait to see her when she is finished fully, that that won't be for a while yet!
She looks great! I also can't wait to see her finished! Fabulous work so far! ;D

She still has a lot of work to be done before i can class her as finished. The body is needing a bit more work done to it, in order to fit the water cannons and other little details, but hopefully these won't take too long to do, and if they do, it will be worth the wait when she is fully finalized! :)
Do you always use Tomica/Trackmaster faces for your engines? Except you made Jolly with wooden Bash/Dash's face.
Referring back to your Jolly model, I was watching Toy Story 3 today with my younger cousins, and the loco in the movie did have cylinder rods. I just thought I'd mention that :)
I mostly use faces i can source, some from Trackmaster models, some from Wooden Railways models, it all comes down to size, if the faces are too large or too small, they aren't touched, but yes, most of my models use faces from both brands.

I thought so, heh, looks like i was right after all in adding them to the model then. :)
I've taken faces from Take-n-play and Wooden. In the case of my Duncan model, I wanted the smallest I could find, which surprisingly was the Wooden version.

nice so far but do u think the water jets are abit big ???? :-\
No not really, because the although i do like the ones they put on the take along belle, imo, the take along ones are a bit too small and they also don't move, but the ones on my model do. They might look bigger because of how the photos are, taken at close range can often make things look bigger than they seem.

Caleb, Just in my Opinion, don't do G. It SO much more expensive, and I've seen the thomas models in G..... They are not worth 150 for one. Save the money, and invest tons toward the HO. Make a beautiful HO scale layout first. I had the same problem. i wanted to start too much at a time. i learned that both (projects) won't come out great, as opposed to if you wanted to invest all your time into one thing. Your videos are great. Make them even better, and keep your medium the same. Ho scale trains. ;) Just my 2 (10000000) cents :P
SodorAdventures, I think Caleb means "G.Ruffy", like S.C.Ruffey but with stubble. He's mentioned it in an earlier thread. Besides, Caleb's already well into HO modelling.

Yep! And thanks! :) To clarify, G.Ruffy is going to be S.C.Ruffy's twin from the other railway. He has stubble, a black coat of paint, and some heavy weathering. (But not out of control weathering. ;) I've learned my lesson on that one! :P ) Basically, he is twice as bad as S.C. Ruffy!

Well if nobody says anything, then it won't give Bachmann the indicator that we want newer HO models of Thomas, Percy and James. It seems to be an increasingly demanded item.
Hi all.
It's been a while since i last posted here, I've been working on Belle for the past few weeks, and i am happy to say that she is done, though she is only needing a bell to be added to her firebox, she is complete nonetheless and runs very well for a model that dates back to the 80s.

That's all for now folks.
You impress me every time. GOOD JOB! ;D
Nice!
Sweet! :D
One word: awesome. That is all :)
Thank you once again for the positive feedback, i will hopefully have my Paxton model finished by the end of this month, now that the trackmaster model is available. :)
Your model of Belle looks fantastic, great job!
very nice! how did you get the crest?

He got it off of the trackmaster model. It was a sticker. :) I think.
It is indeed a sticker, and not so easy to remove either.
Brilliant... wow... absolutely...
Hello all.
Apologies for the lack of updates to this thread, lot of things been going on in my personal life, but, i have a few new updates.
First of all, a new project which is starting soon, you all probably know who this model will become once it has been prep'd.
Secondly, Paxton is almost ready, the face is the last thing i need to complete him, once he is done, i will then be working on Splatter, Dodge and Den as my next new Diesel projects.
looking forward to it! where did you get the model?
Bought the model from a Toy Fair today for £60. :)
I don't know who its of, but that looks A-MAZ-ING!

Den ;)
It will eventually become Den, i just need to sort out the chassis and make it 0-4-0 instead of 0-6-0, possibly gonna order parts from Branchlines to make this possible, since they stock the bits needed for the cranks e.t.c.
Face is still being decided, but hopefully will get the correct one later in the week, my cards are on the take-n-play den being the most accurate. :)
Ohhhhh. Still looks sweet though!
Good luck on making "Den" :)
Thanks guys. :)
The parts i ordered from Branchlines to make Den have arrived, so i shall be working on him this weekend, expect new photos of his progress to be posted very soon.
Den's progress has been very slow, but, alot of good progress made been made, despite the slight setback with the body earlier in the week, which has now been corrected.
There are still gaps to fill in before the model will be ready for primer, but this is currently how he looks at the moment. ^^
Before the mishap, how the body would have been originally.

And how it looks now, with clever work and careful time building the new shell.

I will have more updates soon folks, thanks to all for taking interest in the works i do, and hope that you will enjoy seeing future stuff as well. :)
Looks fantastic! :)

Thanks mate, the face is a perfect fit, so all i gotta do now is fill in the gaps and then he's ready for painting.
EDIT: heres a quick update, progress also showing Dennis is coming along too.
Too bad about the body mishap. From what I can see, Den's coming along great.
And Dennis too! The method is a bit interesting, using the Trackmaster body with OO kit parts.. I look forward to seeing how both turn out. :)
They look very smart! You've been doing a lot of Diesels latley, Diesel 10, Paxton, Den, Dennis. lol. They still look awesome, though. :)
Cheers for that guys.
My main aim at the moment is to finish off all the Diesels i currently am working on, then go back and work on the Steamies and rework some older ones, hehe, and you can be sure that no details will be left out, i am doing my best now to ensure that all models are completed to the best i can get them at, regardless of who has the 'best' models.
Like I've said before, people can say that they have the best models, but, i like to think that they only pass comments like that to get reactions out of people, and this is why i do the models how i want them to be, not because i am looking for any excuse to suddenly start a slurring match over who models what. ;)
Brilliant job on Dennis. ;)
If there's going to be a TM Norman, will h be done, too? ???
Most certainly, that will happen all in good time. :)
You're model of Dennis is coming along nicely.
Thanks, Captain Punjab. :)
The chassis is currently being worked on, but i am hoping to have it working along with Den by the middle of next month if not sooner.
Maybe you can make dart after you finish den! ;D
Not much of a point though, considering he owns Hornby's model of Dart already. Maybe just a different, more accurate looking chassis.
I had thought about it, but like Skarloey has said, i already own a model of Dart from the Hornby range, and i think all that he needs is just a more suitable chassis instead of one with side rods, since he didn't have them in the Day of the Diesels feature film.
When the next toy fair comes up here in Devon, I'll have a rummage around and see what i can find. :)
I hope to have Den and Dennis in working order by mid June if not sooner, so I'll keep you all posted on their progress via this thread, Facebook, My forum and My blog.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention, great work on Paxton, now that he's complete. Just wondering, was the face hard to remove from the Trackmaster Paxton? (Given that it is in a hollow area) Keep up the good work, as it always tends to be great.
It was fairly easy to remove, it is screwed in place on the trackmaster body, so it was just a case of unscrewing the face from inside the trackmaster mould, and gently using a hacksaw to cut the excess plastic from the back of the face. :)
Wow! Dennis looks great (as do your other projects). Keep up the good work Stepney!
Here's a project I did back in 2006. It's my very own Season 1 Truck, and yes, I know it's blue instead of black.
http://fav.me/d4w6qap (http://fav.me/d4w6qap)
Now don't get me wroung, unlike Stepney, I'm not that much of a modeller with Trains. Just with layouts, so I only do projects in rolling stocks that are easy for me.
The next project I'm doing is my own grey Troublesome Truck with a face from one of the Wooden Giggling Troublesome Trucks.
Nicely done, GTPS2.
Does anybody know where I can find the basis of the works unit coach? I am building a custom breakdown train out of the TOMY one, and I feel a works unit coach would be a nice addition. :)
Hi people.
Been a while since i updated the thread, the 4th installment of Railway Stories from Sodor is finally complete after 2 months of waiting. :)
Uploading to YouTube very soon!
Hooray! :D

So far google has returned fruitless, however, looking at one of the Hornby 4-wheeled coaches, I think you could lengthen it's chassis and body to the correct length. The Bachmann Annie and Clarabel are to short (hight-wise) for the Works Coach. Hope this helps! ;)
-Matt
I once saw a Works Unit Coach that was made by placing the body of a TOMY Works Unit Coach on the chassis of a Bachmann Annie/Clarabel, with some extra detailing done with Styrene (I think Churchill8F also has a model constructed this way).
Of course, I also saw a completely scratchbuilt version of the Coach as well, I saw it on a forum which recently closed down & it looked awesome. If you like, I can send you the photos (via PM) I saved of it for some pointers (I would upload them here, but it's not my model so I don't want to cause any trouble for the owner).
JWR3001
That would be nice, thank you! :)
I have a quick question I think you can help me with Stepney,
I am repainting some old bachmann hogwarts coaches I found in my toy box and I want to repaint it green, black, and cream colored with yellow line. How would I paint these two coaches if you would repaint them?
Hey,
I've also repainted my Hogwarts coaches awhile ago, and I'm curious as to what you mean by painting them. Like how you would apply the paint or a style in which you want to paint it, like GWR coaches?

well, I meant like gordons express coaches, in its colors but not the prototype. I just want to apply the paint in a way so that it's applied in a neat way, not a cruddy coat of paint that no engine would be seen in. If you have some advice, that would be splendid. thank you.
I don't think I've had as much experience as Stepney, but I think I got enough out of my Old Mainline Coaches project to help you out (coincidentally, I plan on doing the same project in a few months, but with some different coaches).
Firstly, if you're using coaches that already have paint on them, I'd go over them in some primer (a few coats will do). This will help the paint you apply both dry and adhere to the model. It'll also make repainting easier and give a neater finish.
Then, when you're ready to start painting, mask off the sections you don't want to paint (i.e if you're painting green, mask off the cream sections) with some masking tape (I'd recommend Tamiya masking tape).
(http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/5472/cimg0081ra.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/35/cimg0081ra.jpg/)
If you use masking tape, make sure you press it down with your fingers completely, so paint doesn't leak (I learnt this the hard way ;) ).
(http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/1617/cimg0049xa.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/220/cimg0049xa.jpg/)
Once the paint is dry, you can remove the tape, although try not to leave it on a model for more than 24 hours, the tape will start eroding the paint if it is.
If done right, you should get a nice, clean painted section.
(http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/7659/cimg0060t.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/155/cimg0060t.jpg/)
For this project, I'd recommend brush-painting over spray-painting, but if you plan on spray-painting, you'll need to find some wider/thicker masking tape.
Hope this helps you,
JWR3001
Those coaches are really neat, i need to update mine since they are abit on the tatty side now, but very well made all the same. :)
Thanks again, Stepney. I didn't mean to bring them up yet again, but since Wittman asked about painting coaches, I thought it would help.
I have been thinking about taking up an Express Coaches project myself though....Not that Hornby or Bachmann haven't done a great job of them already, but I don't think either of them have really nailed the structure or shape of them.
Since the Daisy project is taking so much longer than expected (due to not having the right tools), I might go ahead and make the coaches as a sort of "mini-project" before my Club's next exhibition.
JWR3001
Hey don't worry about it, it's nice to see others making Season 1 style stock. :D
Thanks for the tips, it'll really help. I'm kind of on a budget so until I can afford Gordon and some proper bachmann coaches, I'll get them, but not now. Thanks again.
I've decided to put Den and Dennis aside for the time being, at least till i get the chassis sorted. :)
Am now working on a project i have waited so long to do, Splatter and Dodge!
That's good to hear! :D

Cheers, i have started to sort the models out currently, what i have so far:
The chosen donor models, are a pair of Bachmann 'Thomas' Diesels, with the correct chassis and body shapes. Presently, the faces and eyes have been removed, and the chassis carefully removed from the body shell, there are four screws holding the model into place, two under the bonnet and two under the cab.
I have set the chassis to one side, whilst the bodies are being prepared for a primer undercoat.

No.. the first post i made before posting the pics clearly states that Splatter and Dodge are being produced using the Bachmann Diesels, not 'Arry and Bert.
I did toy with the idea of doing them, but, i actually feel that Splatter and Dodge are to unknown to younger fans, despite them being in a one off 'movie' they never really had any sort of background built about them, apart from being a pair of silly side-kicks to a villainous Diesel.
So, they are models i am doing, because i feel they need some background about them covered!
@Stepney the 'Bluebell' Engine thanks for clearing that up, my mistake, sorry about that.
Hey don't worry about it. :)
'Arry and Bert i am gonna leave and wait to see if Bachmann makes them, who knows, they could very well be around the corner or being considered by Bachmann for future release, since they have the correct molds now to make them. ^^
I hope they will be considered for the range, but if not, then i will look at making my own versions of them.
But i wanna get Splatter and Dodge sorted first.
they seem to be coming along pretty good! keep up the great work! ;) Arry and Bert would be nice to have. after all they just need to change the face, paintwork, take off the ladders and badda bing two new products.
Are you going to use Splatter and Dodge's faces on the Bachmann Diesel models when you make them? Or will they have the same face, but with some little edits?
Also, will they keep the ladders around their faces or will they be taken off? ???
They didn't have ladders, so i shall be modelling them as they looked in the movie. :)
Yes... I figured, because I saw the progress shots on your website. ;)

That looks amazing.
I can't wait to see how this building looks when it's detailed, think you will be the first person to actually make a decent looking model of it. 8)
looks great so far! :o i myself have been wanting to make a SSC building, but i wasn't sure what to make it out of. I tried balsa wood, but I broke it when i was cleaning the dust off the layout. I was only a 1/4 of the way done so i didn't care that much. :P I haven't gone back to it but i might now. what did you use? plasticard?
Yep, its all plasticard....I had some lying around, so I thought I might as well use it. The kind I have is a bit too flexible for my taste, but I'm sure once all the pieces are fixed together, it will have a more rigid shape. At any rate, its a great material for scratchbuilding pretty much anything! ;)
It is pretty difficult to cut, though. If you have a pair of scissors (and a really good eye) you can get some really nice, straight cuts, but if you have no choice other than to use a hobby knife, it can be very difficult...this is why my building only has one window cut out at the moment.
Thanks for your feedback!

Sure, I'll e-mail you both drawings I've have at the moment (I think I have a total of four drawings, but I only have two on my computer at the moment). The drawings are done to scale on A4 and some measurements are included. All I ask is that in return, you credit me with the design if you build it and feature on Youtube or any other forums & that you don't redistribute the original drawings.
Also, the building was originally designed to fit my layout, so it is much smaller than the original TV Series building (might not look so good in large open areas).
Thanks for your interest,

Thanks, and of course I shall credit you. I may enlarge it to film with in my series but I'll certainly credit you for the original design.

Thanks--I must say I'm actually looking forward to seeing a building completed from my design--I might be able to design them, but I'm certainly not at all great at building them (which is why I originally considered sending the plans to a professional scratchbuilder--something which I now see is too expensive and not half as much fun!). ;)
Oh, and one more thing, if you need to credit me, please credit my Youtube username (GuardsCompJ), not my forum one. Thanks

I took a bit of creative license with the paint colours--the reference photos I used to paint the model are quite old, its very difficult to tell what colours were used on the original model. At any rate, I'm sure a bit of proper weathering when its finished will greatly improve its appearance.
Until next time,

cool
The windmill is coming along beautifully. I can't wait to see the finished product :)
I have the same Dapol kit (unbuilt) with the same plan - so I'm looking forward to see how this turns out. Good job so far.
Will you be putting a motor in it to make the fans move?
Thanks alot guys, much appreciated.

I thought about this before the project and yes, I will be motorising it at one point, but not yet. I'll wait until the layout has developed a bit more before I get around to it (hopefully by then I'll have the money and knowledge to do it--I really have no clue on how to go about it right now :P ). I'll just be building the structure for now.
JWR3001
Even with a motor, in that case, best windmill EVER, which reminds me I need to work on mine sometime soon, I've just been sick and on a holiday for 2 weeks, so only just got back about 2 hours ago :) ;D
Double post, please deal with it ;).

For those of you that has seen my Season 1 Truck should know that I'm going to work on two new projects.
Custom made Troublesome Truck(Using a Cargo Car with a face from one of the Wooden Giggling Troublesome Trucks)
1:64th scaled version of John Tanner's Dodge Callenger R/T from Driver San Francisco(Using a Hot Wheels 1970 or 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T)
But I want to ask someone about Tanner's Dodge Challenger from Driver San Francisco.
Should I buy Hot Wheels' 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T or the 1971 version, cuz the Challenger in Driver San Francisco was a 1970 model painted yellow with black racing stripes, a big engine and a black wing?
Photo of Tanner's Challenger:

Photo showing the wing:
You might not have played Driver San Francisco, but you can see how the Dodge Challenger looked like in that game.
I also need to know which Challenger R/T made by Hot Wheels should I buy to make it look like the one from Driver San Francisco? The 1970 version, or the 1971 version?
Photo of Hot Wheels 1970 Dodge Challenger:

I HAVE played this game before (quite a few time) and id say repaint the green '71: it has the black hood scoop that Tanners has as well

Looks good...the positioning is good and the painting looks like it went off without any trouble. You've also weathered it pretty good, which is more than I can say for any of my projects. ;)
I also notice that you've also got the Hornby Dryaw station on your layout... ;D
Anyway, looking forward to seeing more photos soon!

Actually no, I used two greys and the trouble was which should be the base, and then I did some weathering when the paint was too fresh and it was a nightmare and yeah the hornby dryaw was always my station of choice ;).
Really? Oh well, it isn't fun if its too easy! At least it turned out well in the end (at least, judging from the photos).

Sorry man, and I don't think grass up the sides would work on a windmill anyway ;).
EDIT: Scratch the above, I think I have a better understanding of that post now, if it's easy then it's no challenge, no challenge = no fun, right?
The windmill is looking pretty good so far, great work!

Buying custom models? Sign me up! :D
I would SO want my own Bachmann Splatter and Dodge... (without moving eyes, lol) although the only bad thing would involve many 'Arry and Bert's turning in faceless Class 08s. ;D (kind of like if the Thomas universe was real and they had no faces like real engines do)
How long does it take to complete a model or a pair of engine twins, Stepney? :-\

you have to type on tiny or non-existent(touch-screen) keys. I was so happy to get a computer so my ipod would just be for music, some youtube and my camera. but still awesome! may i ask. is it an iPhone, or an alternitave. like RIM or nexus?
If i had my own business set up for making custom Thomas items, i would happily take commissions and propositions for characters, but sadly, my with my working life, i only get evenings to work on projects, since most weekends i am away up country seeing my partner on a regular basis.
I am truly honored to hear that so many here like what i've done with my models so far, and i will continue to model characters, no matter how much of a challenge they turn out to be, it's all for fun at the end of the day, there is no competition regarding who can model what characters better e.t.c.
Modelling is a adult hobby, a hobby that is supposed to be about working on building up skills and giving advice to others and showing what you can do with a bit of time, patience and hard work over time, not about how to be elitist and shunning everyone else's efforts. I have come across many posts here on this sort of topic, and i think that many people here have a lot of great skills, and i for one, hope that everyone else's model projects, turn out as good as what mine have.
I'm always happy to lend a hand where needed, hence why i created my blog, Facebook page and model forum. :)

Its a shame they didnt return after the movie like Lady and Diesel 10 did even it was only a few cameos. Very nice models and layout too.

Agreed, I for one prefer the season four work. Your work is good yea but you're getting very close to being arrogant about it now. No model is that good.
yeah, now I've found the same flaw in both models, he's made orange, when in fact, his official paint color is vermillion.

This is what I think stepney would look like in the CGI series.... and this is CGI!
still a wip, but will finish it tommorow evening!
Wow, both Rheneas and Stepney look great! I can't wait to see the finished product. Will you be adding weathering to the narrow gauge engines? :)
I will. I haven't yet cos it's a real pain!!! I'd have to "uv-unwrap" it and make the textures by hand. He and the others will be clean (like the engine depot profiles:). I will work on Stepney when I get home from church today. It will be the most accurate trainz Stepney ever! If I realise it to trainz. Tell me if you would like it.
Wow, some impressive animation going on here. I myself am very interested in animation, so you've definitely gotten my interest with this. Great work!
Do you have any set goals at this point (i.e are you trying to get certain characters done for your series, or is it pretty much freewheeling)?
JWR3001
It's just random at this point whilst I build by skills further.
All characters I have made will most-likely be redone, From 1 to whatever I need when I get the scripts back. But I think I will release stepney to trainz.
If you want to try some animations, download blender at blender.org, It's as powerful (if not more powerful) as the $3500, 3DSmax. and blender is free!
Watch some tuts, from blenderguru.com, and youtubers such as wireheadking, firechildc and many others will help you build a possible future career!
Also type in "blender landscape tutorial, to learn how to make...well landscapes! And Blenderguru's underground subway tutorial to make track, and how to use array and mirror modifiers!
If you have a mac, you will have to do a google search on how to use blender with a one button mouse.
Have fun!

awesome looking models! they are coming along great!
question for the expert modelers out there: if I want to turn a mail car into a regular van, do i have to prime it first? my guess is yes, but i could be wrong.
Not necessarily. I didn't prime mine, just painted over it with acrylic paints. Mind you, though, that acrylic paint tends to chip and scratch easily, so if you were to use it I'd spray it with an overcoat :)
when you painted yours, could you see SODOR MAIL?
Depends what paints you use also, paints I have ever used never chipped. But for a neater job airbrush it i tend to get the brush hairs onto the model may post my abandoned projects here.
I've had brown spray paint at the ready for some time now. i just never got around to it because i've been really busy this summer.
I had to apply several coats of paint so the new paint job didn't look translucent, but in the end "Sodor Mail" disappeared :)
I didn't use the old mail van, beacuse they got a CGI update. I just scratched off the envelopes and painted it brown. No primer. :)
that's my plan, to convert a CGI style mail van. I already have 4 classic style mail vans and i don't want to mess them up. all 4 together make up a nice train and i can always leave a mail van at the back of the yard, or something, to make the layout a little more realistic.
That's good, keep the classic style abuse the awful CGI style.
Hhaha it's not really abuse more modification. If i got a New Style Mail van I would repaint it. I can't wait to finally have my trains in the same house as I am. I have 4 classic style mail vans as well.
hey is it possible to transfer a Thomas gearbox and wheels to a Toby chassis
Anyone know where I can get a reasonable sized layout table, with draws for storage I would like.
To my knoweledge you have to build them. My uncle built a nice one for me a few years ago with shelves and all. So you have to buy the wood and do the carpentry.
You could always buy a coffee table with drawers and build your layout on that :P
Well I have decided to build a layout in my grandma's spare room, when empty its pretty big have to go and measure so I can decide what size table I need, I have decided to replicate Knapford as one of the area's everywhere else I'm not sure yet.
your probably all tired of seeing these, but aw-well.

@Shawn Don't get me wrong, you have made a nice model. :) I just don;t understand why HiT would stoop that low and change his color, thats like changing Donald and Douglas from black to orange with purple stripes.
They didn't change his color, if you watch the movie you'll understand the context of Rheneas being painted yellow.

You can imagine how peed of I would be, I believe his repaint isn't permanent. Even HIT should know to respect the character's identity after all Skarloey and Rheneas kept their RWS livery apart from the stripes.
i believe the repaint was supposed to be a joke for Thomas........in other words something to make money off of. :P
hey i have a question im thinking about kit bashing a few locos when i can obtain them to make an ho Sir Handel what would be some good engine suggestions to use.

Lol the best thing you can do is use a Hornby Caledonian Belle and modifie that if you want a HO Sir handle.
Ok thanks DTST. That might work to
It looks very close to him already with more modifying should look good.

That is a standard gauge locomotive, and I'm afraid wouldn't be very good for an accurate Sir Handel, although it shares some features. Sir Handel is a narrow gauge engine, and if you want an accurate looking model, you can get a kit to build a model of his basis, Sir Haydn, on the Parkside Dundas website. the kit is only about 25 pounds although you need to build and paint it yourself as well as get a chassis for the kit to roll on

Oh..my word...That looks epic! I'll send you storyboards soon!
all-right...I'll be ready to start production on your episode!
Hi everyone,
After quite some time, work on the Daisy project is starting to pick up again (albeit in small amounts) - mainly since I will be unable to work on my layout indefinitely (I'm having trouble with dust on the layout, and I'm still looking for an easy and inexpensive solution).
I've just finished making the bufferbeams for the model. It started off with two pieces of 1mm thick styrene measured and cut to size, then cemented together. Holes were then drilled with a pin-vice to fit the buffers, then some Bachmann buffers (available as spare parts from Bachmann Branchline) were fitted and glued into place.
(http://imageshack.us/a/img266/134/img0562bz.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/266/img0562bz.jpg/)
(http://imageshack.us/a/img198/7701/img0559ey.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/198/img0559ey.jpg/)
One of the bufferbeams was then glued to the back end of the model (I haven't removed the front bogie of the model yet, so I'm unable to access the front end).

A comparison shot against the unaltered front end, showing the difference in buffer heights. Many people who have built models of Daisy have always complained about the incredibly low buffer height, however this does not concern me at all (I'm aiming for TV Series accuracy above all else).

That is sweet! :D
So far, so good!
TV-Daisy's front looks the part, though I do wonder why the buffer beam was ever that low..
Most likely to accommodate the complex RC eye-mechanism.
Anyway, I am looking for a little advice from you guys...I'm looking to install a smoke generator in 1-2 of my Bachmann Thomas models (DC that is - yes, I realise the smoke will only work at higher voltages, but I'm willing to allow that), however I can't actually remove the faces. In particular, I'm trying to remove the face from my Bachmann Thomas & James. I tried following a video on YouTube where the uploader just pulled off the face with his fingers, but I can't seem to do it so easily on mine - my fingers just slide right off the face (and I don't want to apply any further force for fear of breaking something)!
If those of you who have done it could share the technique/tools you used, I'd be very grateful!
Thanks in advance,
JWR3001
Maybe the best thing is to remove the body shell from the gear box and push the face from inside out, that should work. From my Thomas and James the faces went off easily ;D.

It can take alot of force to take one of the faces off. Thomas and percy were like that for me. Although they're faces won't go back on as well as they used to.

Thank you sir. Since making that, I have updated the rail-head widths, and made an entirely new duck. More to come soon
Wait, so let me get this straight. Is this just digital art or is it for a games like Trainz.
It is digital art. CGI models, but not in trainz. They are cgi models made with an industry standard 3D modelling software. Called blender 3D. If you want to see what blender can do, go watch the short film Sintel on youtube. It was completely produced in blender.
Ok, thanks!
Don't know where to post this, but I did this to help my work in progress skills.

I didn't make the boat, but downloaded it to put it in the picture:)
That really looks great Shawn! :)
Thanks!
Looks great Shawn! Does this mean the Star and Zero fleets will be appearing, or was this just a little test?
This is just a little test. But you never know(!)

my best ever I have to say
Wow. Just wow. If only there were someone who could export it into Trainz that would make my day!
I am afraid that can't be done. But I'll get some nice footage of them running soon! I'll have to make some china clay hoods...

Nice! Keep it up!
Thank you sir. And I will!
They're looking god so far!

They are similar, but not entirely the same. The prototype I've based Edward off has a square firebox
I'm hoping to make the old mainline coaches soon, does anyone have any suggestions on what I should
do?

One of my friends made the old mainline coaches quite well, however most of what he posted was over on SRMF, and we all know what happened there...
Perhaps I can ask him over email and repost what he says he did over here?
Um what happened there

Those were not my best ever. Many months later, After they're reveal in CGI, I made new ones from scratch. And here they are!
They are not finished yet, but you get the idea :)
In July, I decided to redo or overhaul EVERY engine I had made. I've got a few more pictures of "new generation" models if anyone would care to see ;)
I would love to! your work with the CGI animation is amazing. Ever thought of creating a series? i hope so!
On another note...... how is the "other project" coming?

I am working on a series. And I'm sorry how long the other project is taking. It's just on the backburner :(
And I will edit this post with more pictures!
Hello, I'd like to build the old mainline coaches as a project and I'd like some tips on making them, because I like to make them as accurate as I can. :)
I'll give this thread a bump to show my latest work; the Old Van.
I used a PECO OR-25 box van kit, which is an O-16.5 kit of a Lynton & Barnstaple Railway van. The TV series used this same prototype for their "old vans" based off Tenmille kits. The kit comes with the large hosepipe too, but I haven't attached it. Still need to put the other handrails too. For an O-16.5 kit, it looks pretty at-home with Bachmann Thomas items.
Next step is paint and weathering. :)

Wow good work there Sparks. Keep us posted. I can't wait for the finished product :).
As far as accuracy goes, that will surely hit the nail with hammer with the old van from A Close Shave. Nice job, Sparks. :)
Nice job sparks
;D
I want to make a g scale railroad but I don't have outside space. Can anyone give me some advice on where to put it?
Whatever space you have at hand large enough to house the layout, really can't give advice on where you should put your layout.
I recently decided I should do a rws S.C.ruffy for a project and make him look as gritty as possible.
That could have fantastic results. ;)

Awesome idea! You could do a remake of the story/episode he was in, too!

I do have the bachmann scruffy but no Douglas, toad, Oliver, and Duck, but will when I get those models ;)
Sparks, the kit-van looks great. Positively perfect.
Have you a face selected to use on the van?
And Shawn, I'd love to see more of your CG models. Just saying :)

Cool. And I'm very impressed with these models.
Well, I am starting to gather enough stuff to make remakes, but it will take time... :'( I'm sorry guys :( As for the remakes, they have been postponed till 2014 (probably June, maybe later :'() Glad to see all the projects you all have done! Amazing job! All of you! Keep up the good work!
