Yeah,  that is laziness of any manufacturer taking the easy (p/n) route !  And not budgeting (less than hour)  to review sites such as rrpicturearchives  to acquire numbers within the car series.   

Regards,  Aristo' they did start using road numbers (vs p/n) in at least the last 6 yrs previous to closing down !


Maybe it  was due to concerns  from awhile back,  when the prototype railways were invoicing/suing  model companies  for using their real world 'images'.

Also consider looking into the $ for a brand new replacement,   'cause unless you have a good repor'  with the repair shop to test the safety and usability of the unit, they will (understandably) have to charge you for the time.  

Unless they see the prospect of a happy return client .... usually in a smaller town/city locale .

Amended: 20 hrs later;  okay now  ... found quite a few 'utube videos since original post,  doing the review or unboxing thing.  
Also called the vendor this a.m. to confirm p/n and doublechk the $.  
Today's clerk quoted a $, three hundred more than yesterdays' clerk quote       So that has killed any urgency to acquire.... leaving me wondering if i HAD known the street price and said I'll buy both,  would it have rang thru at three hundred each less than actual      LOL      But them being a locally owned biz I don't think I could ah have done it to them... maaybe let him process it thru and then tell him ya might want to chk this out and do refund/return,  so you can sell them to someone else,  for the 'real' retail price !     If it was a national/international store I would not be so "thoughtful" !!  IMHO

Stumbled onto a couple 'Thomas with Annie and Clarabelle' sets at a small retailer.  

I was in a hurry, could not spot the p/n number on it (obviously the one sidepanel i did not look at  nor a price tag, so asked a clerk who chkd their database who quoted me a seemingly really great  p'point.
Lookin' at my (complimentary showbooth acquired) B'mann 2016 catalog, I'm pretty sure it was p/n90068.  

Anyone out there wish to share their experiences with this set ?

I've always wondered with a train running round the base of the Christmas tree where do the gifts go ...  but then I realized maybe in most households it is the moving entertainment at the tree till Christmas Eve  and after the gifts opening...


Obviously we never had this 'tradition',  although there were a couple yrs (-01'&02?), when parents came here for the season,   I had the tree set-up thru one of the cut-outs of our indoor G-gauge 'layout'

I as you stated --- strongly recommend this practise also !   

Another positive (ie. a save )  is that those peoples (or their significant others?)  selling those junkers/odds'nends will some day just say the heck with it and send (heaven forbid) all of it to a landfill !   

Personally got my eye on a 'collection' of odds'nends to hopefully acquire in about 3wks when in-person access feasible.

All Manufacturers of consumer goods for a variety reasons do the same.
ex. domestic vehicle manufacturer asking $170 for just a OEM screw jack ! 
Auto salvage range $75-100cdn for the complete kit (just need the jack though).

Annnd a lot of peoples get involved in (different) things,  because to them it is trendy,  so seeing this new outdoor-flavoured  hobby they jumped into it !  When the trendy/new aspect of it wore off it and the economy went 'south',   they used that as an reason to bail out of one of their latest trendy past-times.
 

As mentioned on another forum, here in town a bricks 'n mortar has brought in the G-gauge line of Piko   to supplement their previous stock of small scales (n/ho - marklin, trix, piko +) .  
And added 'bonus' to consumers, (and kudos to this Cdn bricks'nmortar) .... their pricing of this g-gauge manufacturer product is cheaper than the regional-based "online" shop  !!


All consumer goods markets have/had  gone soft,  but as a recent media report stated the peoples in the top % level are making higher earnings,  although unsaid was not for the frontline staffers that those top %  laid off since '08 u.s generated crash, and the collapse of the O/G industry.


Oh yeah both these vendors (brick & online) up here in Canada, not selling msrp or higher,   as 3 other local HSs  used to do previous to  bailing-out (no re-stocking of G-gauge new prod. nor NOS) 8-10 yrs  ago.

Missed a marketing moment last yr.  as mentioned in another thread posting (ref. Canada's 150yr...),  but still not too late, maybe even a small decal  lower panel "150+".  

IF Bachmann is again exhibiting (already registered ?) for ST'18,   they could dropship  1-2 dozen to sell thru a regional vendor (with show booth),   for  a special show/introductory pricepoint (saaay max. $151cdn)

I just realized early this a.m.  (no ! eggs are usually on Sunday),  that Kader/Bachmann  missed a sales opportunity not developing a Canadian flag Egg-Liner.


2017 =  Canada's 150th anni'  ,   Vimy Ridge 100th,   and they could ah rolled it out in the first quarter  at their booth {Field 2-46} within  Canada's Largest Train show !

Will this tax be charged to the u.s.-based end user/consumer,   if purchase made of (Bachmann) product from retail 'off-shore'  ?


When we've had to purchase items from us-based sources (for decades) and import them (obviously) as retail purchases they came across the border (model railway/hobby) tariff/duty-free. 


Maybe companies will have to finally seriously talk to say  'off-shore' (Cdn.) retailers about selling more of the product (read --- offer more attractive wholesale pricing) so us-based end-users and manufacturers can avoid this forecast tax.

p.s. of course we have money exchange rate (+/- ?), CC conversion rate (5%), fed. tax 5%,  customs handling fee per parcel ($10cdn),  and prov. sales tax when applicable  (AB presently has no pst ),  plus shpg.    Although when I attended the LS shows in the usa  4 times it was a time  when I could load a extra duffle with purchased product and only incur only any exchange rate  and CC conver. rate .... now it is the airlines that fee ya to death so this is no longer a option,  and one of the reasons why I haven't flown nor attended a LSTS since '04 !
