Jerry's email is girotek@rcn.com. He's quite active on Facebook and does some amazing ESU smoke/sound/DCC conversions. Besides making gears!

He also has the small double-gear for the 2-8-0 and 2-6-0/4-4-0. See

Large / Circus Anniversary 4-6-0?
December 22, 2020, 03:46:49 PM
I've just been helping a friend set up a double-headed circus train with a pair of Emmett Kelly 4-6-0s. One was conventional (apart from all the xmas lights someone had fitted around the front which we had to rip out.) The other seems to be a 5th Gen Anniversary chassis [metal rods, crossheads, bump over gear and grease access.]
What's most curious is that it has some metal fittings - metal whistle on the steam dome, for example. It also has a BBT-style pilot mount.

I don't believe there ever were any Circus locos with Anniversary designations? Or were there?

Oh - the double header works. Revolution and battery in the rear tender, wired to the two engines in parallel.

I have columbia 2-4-2 union pacific steam engine, model 91101. It jumps while going around the track. After farther investigation I found the drive gear is missing a tooth. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement?
Mr Gear Man Jiro Yermanian has some, which I just fitted in a 2-4-2 Columbia. Full info and pics here:

Quoteare Bachmann's Thomas wheels the same diameter as the ones used in the Big Hauler line
No. Thomas spoked wheels are significantly larger.  Bachmann Europe makes spoked 31mm wheels under the Liliput name - I buy them from a UK supplier, Kernow Model Rail Centre
http://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/p/37108/L999304-Liliput-Metal-Wheel-Set-with-spoked-wheels

As Ted says, LGB make spoked wheels, and they are interchangeable (mostly - sometimes the axles are too long.)  I have swapped LGB wheels for Bachmann solid and Liliput spoked on some of the small freight cars.

I was in the UK for the first 25 years of my life, and believe me, you guys ain't had a shock until you've touched a 240V AC power line.  But it didn't injure me.

I removed the wiper a while back. I run battery so not needed. Have not figure out how to post pictures. I need to resize the file.
Take a look at this thread:
https://www.largescalecentral.com/forums/topic/30729/bachmann-spectrum-4-4-0-2-6-0-tender-truck-fix

Still curious where you are getting problems.

P.S. The trucks are in the Parts store:
https://estore.bachmanntrains.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=69_709&products_id=11364&zenid=kk95ilhvg37r9c2prpb8hhpba1
And just to confuse things, a complete chassis (according to the photo) including 2 trucks, a pcb with switches, and a speaker, is $69.50, whereas a truck is $49.50. Go figure. Ah - and the same trucks for the 4-4-0 is $27.10 (sold out) or $33.10 with coupler.

Never heard of the trucks failing. You know about the screw behind the spring box? Just undo the tiny screw on top and the spring box comes out.
The trucks are fairly ordinary archbars, except for the fancy wheels and pickups. I would try to fit the wheels in some new trucks and then move the axle wiper pickups over to the new truck.

I have a G scale Rail Truck and the gears have split.  I called the Estore for replacements and it appears they don't carry them.  Does anyone know where you can get all the replacement gears for the gear box and the drive shaft?
There are a lot of gears in the Railtruck. Which gears are split? The ones at the front connecting the motor to the driveshaft, or the ones at the axle?

I have not heard that NWSL have the railtruck gears, but a lot of Bachmann stuff is reused, so (as Bill says) measure it, count the gears, estimate the size of the hole for the shaft, and ask NWSL. Their website says:"Locomotive Technical Support: tech@nwsl.com".

There is also a gentleman on Facebook, Jerry Yeramian, who makes gears. If NWSL don't have anything, and Jerry thinks it might be a universal problem part (and thus worth making,) he will cut one for you in Delrin. His email is girotek@rcn.com, and he will need the same info as NWSL.

Hi Mark,

There is no real way to work on the motor.  I believe you can still get just the motor, but the easy way out is to get the complete motor block.

Bill
As the Parts dept only sells the whole chassis, I've been working on alternatives.  The same physical motor is used on most of the HO scale diesels. I've been buying the GP50 motor for $19.80. (There's a $15 version in "kit bashing" but it is sold out.)
A word of warning .In theory, the Streetcar is a 12-18V motor, and the GP50 is a 12V. I have no idea whether the internals are identical. Don't run it at full power.

You do need a soldering iron to get the old motor out. The brush gear has a piece that is soldered to the tab in the chassis. Make sure you remove it from the shassis both sides with the motor, so you don't melt anything. And leave the wires (solder them back when you have the motor loose.

You also need a proper gear/wheel puller. I have a large one designed (I think) for Lionel trains. With that you can pull off the 1/2 universals from the GP50 motor, and the worms off the old trolley motor. The shaft in the worm doesn't don't go all the way thru - measure where they are on the old motor before you pull them off. Then you can carefully tap the worms onto the new motor (use a piece of rod in the first worm when you do the second one so that you are tapping the worm onto the shaft, and not pushing the other worm further onto it's shaft.)

The GP50 motor already has 2 wires, so solder them to the tabs that fit back in the chassis where the old motor was attached.

Well, let's hope they unlock it.

BTW, I did my first replacement a few years ago with the 25 tooth NWSL gear. My second loco stopped so I ordered a new gear (the new type ) and took it apart. It already had this new gear (I call it the D-type, to distinguish it from the old ones that split on the splined axles,) so presumably someone had fixed it before me. It stopped due to a dual gear fed by the worm, which Jiro made for me. There's a thread about it here somewhere; I think the title says 'a different gear problem' or similar.

Hi Again,
Here is a link to the axle gear replacement for your Mogul:
https://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/board/index.php/topic,19904.0.html
I have never be able to link the pictures to the text.
Ebay says the average selling price for these  is $298.
Only you can decide!!
Hope this helps.

Loco Bill

Bill, your "axle gear replacement" thread says

QuoteYou will need a Northwest Shortline Brand Gear part No.  2223-6 for the Fn3 Bachmann 4-4-0, 24 tooth. This same gear works for the 2-6-0.  The cost is only about $12 not including shipping.  If you send your loco to Bachmann or buy the Bachmann replacements parts you will only be setting yourself up for the same problem probably sooner rather than later.  So get the gear ordered from NWSL.  If Bachmann Industries introduces an upgraded gear I will let you know.

There is a new, upgraded replacement gear available:
https://estore.bachmanntrains.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=69_145&products_id=4833

Note that it is now fitted on the axle with a flat ("D" shaped axle) and the NWSL part will NOT fit these axles.

Since Bachmann is going to start selling std gauge trains in from the Aristo molds, any chance they will start producing the Aristo NG (Delton) models? C-16 would be really cool
That C-16 is 1/24th scale. There are lots and lots of them available on the secondhand market, so I doubt it will be high on the list.

You may recall that Accucraft also made a C-19 model, metal and live steam. Try them for parts.

The Consolidation 2-8-0 axle is listed as in stock in the parts pages:
https://estore.bachmanntrains.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=69_142&products_id=10285
The NWSL gear is also available - part 2226-6 on page 12.

. . . . .
There is a huge caveat to mounting the battery packs in the boiler shell however, and that is that several of the engines do not have boilers nearly as large as does the Big Hauler. So of necessity, the smaller boilered engines, like the 4-4-0 & 2-6-0 need to have the battery packs mounted in the tender just as Bill and other's have said. Certainly there is nothing wrong with this, even on the Big Haulers, and other larger engines as well, and just as they have said, it does make access somewhat easier!
. . .
If the packs are rechargeable and you put the charging jacks on the loco, I can't see why you'd need access until the whole pack fails. And taking atender apart is just as cumbersome as taking the boiler off!

On the subject of the smaller locos, I agree that you can't do much with the small boilers (although I did manage to cram 2 2x4 NiMh packs in a modified boiler that was the same size as a 2-6-0. Now where did I put that project?) Anyway, when I added batteries to my 2-6-0 I added a new tender as well - that standard one is just too small for me.
