HO / Momentum Settings
May 02, 2012, 12:07:07 AM
I've reached the limit of my knowledge.

Has any one found momentum settings that will work properly with Bachmann decoders?

I've tried everything that and I can think of and nothing works. The only Bachmann locomotives, I have,

that I have successfully set momentum in, have been those I have WITHOUT a Bachmann decoder. That is those that I

installed another brand in or those that came from Bachmann with other than a Bachmann decoder.

HO / 4-8-4Whistle-Help needed.
March 18, 2012, 07:10:48 PM
I have a N & W 4-8-4 Bachmann locomotive with the OEM sound decoder in it.

The pitch of the whistle is too high for my tastes.

Does anyone know how to lower the pitch, using CVs, etc. ?

HO / ATT: The Bach-man

The Bach-man

Regarding the new Bachmann Turntable. I just finished helping out another model railroader with a couple of glitches he encountered when hooking up his new turntable.

If you could pass along a couple of things.  It wouldn't hurt to improve the provided instructions to reflect that operating the turntable with a DC controller and the layout with a DCC controller  is a third option. We were even told by Bachmann Tech Support that this could not be done. Bachmann Support said the only two choices were totally DC or DCC with the installation of a decoder.

And, the provided cable, that goes between the turntable direction controller and the turntable is way to short.  That cable needs to be twice the current length, at least. Either the cable should be longer or a note added to plainly indicate that a red 10' Extenstion is required for DC operation of the turntable.

HO / Bachmann Turntable
January 10, 2012, 10:59:48 PM
I been asked to help install a new Bachmann turntable on a DCC layout with a DCC EZ Controller, and something  has come up that I can not answer.

The instructions provided  say that separate power supplies are required for the track and the turntable, or a DCC decoder has to be installed in the Turntable.

Can the DCC EZ Controller be plugged into the track and use the old DC Controller to power the turntable?

Or am I misreading the whole thing?

HO / Adding a staging yard
December 23, 2011, 05:19:56 PM
I need some suggestions.

I would like to add a 3 or 4 track staging yard off my mainline track.

I have considered coming off a main line  straight section,  at one end of the layout, using a # 5 or # 6 turnout.

The problem I have run into is limited space.  I only have about a 2 X 2 foot area, maybe slightly more to work with, for the actual yard area.

Has any one done this, and/or have any suggestions how to proceed in the most efficient(space requirements) and simplest way?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

HO / adding a spur.
May 10, 2011, 07:24:19 PM
I would like to add a couple of spur sidings to my layout.

I am considering using the # 5 Turnouts to exit the mainline to the spur.

I won't be bringing the spur back to the mainline at the other end--just terminating it.

What can I use to bring the spur back to parallel with the mainline?

Those Williams 4-6-4 Hudsons look really great.

Any chance of a future HO 4-6-4 Hudson, maybe with sound?

HO / K-4 Tender
February 06, 2010, 07:14:33 PM
I just received a new Spectrum K-4  4-6-2. It says it is DCC Ready.

No exploded view and no instructions on how to install the DCC chip. No instructions on even how to open the tender and

gain access to the NMRA plug that is supposed to be inside the tender.

The exploded view on the web site is of no help.

Can some one please help?

Thank you.

HO / N & W water tender
November 06, 2009, 10:05:53 PM
Can the Bachmann N & W water tender be used with my DCC N & W J-class 4-8-4?

The water tender appears to have DC lights.  As far as I tell there is nothing else electrical in the tender.

HO / Bachmann Couplers
October 11, 2009, 02:41:26 AM
 ???

Does some one know IF there is a reference  list which tells which Bachmann couplers fit which Bachmann HO products.

Some of the exploded views provide part numbers that correlate directly with a listing for an EZ Mate coupler, but many do not.

Again, Bachmann documentation leaves much to be desired.

HO / SD-45 required curve radius
October 04, 2009, 08:01:24 PM
Does anybody have any idea about running an SD-45 loco on a 22" radius

curve. Is it marginal or will it run well.

HO / Sections of track required
September 25, 2009, 02:43:14 PM
I have the numbers for 18 and 22 inch radius track.

Does someone know the number of sections of 26 inch radius curved track required to build an oval?  I would hate to order and find out I'm short.
The gray roadbed if that make any difference.

HO / Programing the Effects Processor
September 19, 2009, 03:03:35 AM
Bach Man:

I have a new 4-8-4 J Class N&W locomotive with sound.

I would like to program the effects processor, but I'm not clear on how.

CV 119 is used. Are there any default settings, as it is shipped. If so, what are they?

It seems to say to set CV 119 to 9, but then what?  How are the individual effects turned on and off?

Or is it just an all or nothing situation?

I am using a Dynamis.

Thanks in advance for any help.

HO / Problems with 2-8-0
May 04, 2009, 04:05:38 PM
I'm on my second Spectrum 2-8-0 DCC and neither one lasted 3 hours.  The first one, the forward rods on one side came apart.
The second one developed a loud grinding squeal first running forward, then backwards. Allowing for the time delay with Bachmann Service, I now have nearly three months invested. I'm running them on a loop with only straight track, 26" radius curves, and two #5 turnouts

Am I "snake bit" or is the 2-8-0 a problematic unit?

HO / # 5 Turnouts???
April 04, 2009, 10:01:41 PM
I just bought two #5 Turnouts.  When I tried to add them into my layout, I found that  the two track end would not fit any Bachmann EZ Track that I had, only then did I realize  adapter stubs were required and  had not been supplied  with the Turnouts. Does Bachmann supply  adapter stubs with the #5 Turnouts?????  If not, why don't they say that stubs are required give a reference number for the stub?

A qiuck search of this discussion group reveals that I am not the only person who has had this experience.

HO / Old Time Passenger Cars
February 03, 2009, 04:01:13 AM

I have been searching for cars that are compatable,  both mechanically and in appearance.

Does any on know of any sources?

So far I haven't found much.

HO / Couplers
February 02, 2009, 08:15:50 PM
I was looking through the dicusssion group a couple of days ago and came acrossed a pictorial on how to "trim" a hook horn

coupler so that it would mate to the Bachmann EZmate knuckle.

Now that it looks like I will need it, I can't find it.

Does any one remember it?

Not the one showing all the tools.

HO / DC loco runs in reverse when used with DCC System
January 28, 2009, 02:51:12 PM
Bac-Man, et al

I have my conversion to DCC well under way. After a couple of glitches, things seem to be smoothing out.

One curious problem. When I run my DC locomotives, they run opposite to the direction indicator on the DC Controller.

The DC Controller is connected using the supplied interconnect cable to the DCC Controller, as recommended by the E-Z

Command instructions. I tried my grandson's month old Bachmann DC locomotive and it did the same thing.

Any ideas?
