HO / Re: GE 70ton Diesel?
Last post by VTBob - March 13, 2026, 12:57:59 AM
A lot of the Bachmann non-sound decoders use the NMRA/Lenz decoder functions, but there's no good direct translation from German to English (words jumble up). I was however able to get a basic CV listing on the bachmann site & what with having around 13 of these GE 70 Tonners over the years as they came out with the first DCC - No sound units, the numbers all seem to match.

The link to the PDF file for CV listing (Bachmann) is here: https://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/dwg/dwgs/NEM-1LenzDecoderCVTable.pdf

The Standard NMRA CV standard listing is here: https://docs.tcsdcc.com/wiki/NMRA_Standard_CV%27s

Hope this helps.

Is there a list of the CVs for the decoder used on the OnBoard GE 70-ton locomotives? I can't find them anywhere on the Bachmann site.

I have three of the DCC Onboard 70 ton locomotives and am pleased with them. My frustration is that there is no CV list for the decoders and Bachmann seems to not want to share that information.

General Discussion / Industry Idea (If you have the...

Going through some Sanbord Fire Insurance maps and came across this one, published in 1951, that includes the Pfizer Chemical plant.  I worked there 1970 - 1972, and those track curves are sharp, and listening to flange aqueal was pretty much an all day thing. 15" and 18" radius curves would be right for this one.

Expand the pic for details. The building labeled 'Machine Shop' was actually the maintenance shed for the Pfizers in house locos.  There were a pair of 44 Tonners, painted dark Navy blue, when I was there. A 70 Tonner was added after I left, and the paint was changed to "Safety Orange".

You could use the same general configuration for another industry on a large layout, or just use it as a standalong switching layout.  There was plenty of activity going on, and not just tank cars. There would be boxcars to pick up 100lb sacks of finished dry chemicals and deliver sacks of chemicals used in production. Covered hoppers for bulk pickup of dry powdery chemicals. Even flat cars bringing in pipe and valves for mixing tanks.

Those Sanborn maps are pretty cool. I like that you can enlarge them to see details easier.

I don't know how this will reproduce in this form, but this Sanborn map is a view of some long-gone very compact street running switching trackage in my hometown, reminiscent of the 4x8 under discussion. The T&NO comes in from the left. It crosses the vertically running MP several times. The T&NO was in this location at least 20 years before the MP arrived.

Quote from: NWRLevi on February 26, 2026, 11:35:32 AMWith the new Thomas series on the horizon, I wonder if Bachmann would make anything from it. There is bound to be new characters, and it would be interesting to see Bachmann handle them. Would they be 1-to-1 with their models, or maybe be redesigned slightly to fit the more "classic" look that Bachmann aims for? I do doubt Bachmann would update their models to align with the new series, since that would be a lot of effort, and Mattel still does seem to be using the classic CGI Thomas (Such as in Wonders of Sodor).

Just some thoughts I had, interested to see anyone else's perspective on this.

I imagine they're going to stick to CG and model era designs for existing characters in the line. I wouldn't mind seeing them do any new characters that may be introduced in the new series though.
